[[File:Zoom.png|thumb|left|A Mr. Saturn as it originally appeared in ''EarthBound''.]]Mr. Saturns made their first appearance in ''[[EarthBound (game)|EarthBound]]''. Mr. Saturns are strange creatures that reside in Saturn Valley where they provide health care and hotel stays free of charge, while other towns charge more and more as the game progresses. In ''EarthBound'' the Mr. Saturns were captured by {{s|wikibound|Master Belch}}, one of {{s|wikibound|Giygas}}'s henchmen. Once Master Belch is defeated by [[Ness]] and his party, the Mr. Saturn are freed and help Ness on his journey. They are shown to surprisingly be very intelligent as they assist {{s|wikibound|Dr. Andonuts}} in making the Phase Distorter that allows Ness to travel to the past to fight Giygas. Mr. Saturn have their own eccentric dialect that involves saying either "Zoom", "Boing", "Ding", or the occasional "Dakota" at the end of their sentences. They also speak in a very distinctive font which is based off of Shigesato Itoi's daughter's handwriting at the time. In In an interview with Shigesato Itoi (director of the ''[[EarthBound (universe)|EarthBound]]'' series), Itoi states that Mr. Saturns are the "symbol of innocence". ''[[Mother 3]]'' also features Mr. Saturns, who behave the same way as they did in ''EarthBound''. In ''Mother 3'' they are captured by the {{s|wikibound|Pigmask Army}} where they are being interrogated to tell the location of a {{s|wikibound|Needle}}, but refuse to tell. Once freed by Lucas and his party they tell the location of the next needle.

In ''Smash'', Mr. Saturns simply walk around until they disappear and can be picked up and thrown at other players. Mr. Saturns having a passive attitude in ''Smash'' could be a reference to how they're the "symbol of innocence", and the cry that Mr. Saturns make when thrown at another player is likely a reference to their eccentric dialect in ''EarthBound'' and ''Mother 3''. In ''Brawl'', the momentum of a projectile will affect the damage a character will receive; these are recorded in bounces.

Mr. Saturn returns as an item again, functioning the same as before. Strangely enough, one is seen being carried by [[Olimar]]'s [[Pikmin]] on both the box and roster art. This is the only item that appears in both of these.

The Mr. Saturn is also a basis for a {{SSBU|Mii Fighter}} [[Mii Costume|hat]].

The Mr. Saturn also appears as a [[summon]]-exclusive [[Spirit]] requiring the cores of [[Specknose]] and [[Qbby]], and it turn can be used with six Defense-class cores to summon the [[Absolutely Safe Capsule]].

*Mr. Saturn is one of the only items that can't be [[eaten]], likely because they are living beings.

*A small Mr. Saturn [http://earthboundcentral.com/2009/10/hidden-mr-saturn-sprite-in-brawl/ sprite] is hidden in the texture of the {{b|Metroid|creature}} Assist Trophy from ''Brawl''. It cannot be seen in-game.

*In Smash 4, a Mr. Saturn thrown at a grounded opponent will sometimes have a meteor effect, though this doesn't occur until they are at 200% damage.

*Mr. Saturn, [[Morgana]] and [[Slime]] are the only non-playable characters to appear in ''[[Ultimate]]''{{'}}s panoramic character artwork.

**Of these three, it's the only one to be an item, though it can be pulled out by Peach or Daisy's down special.
