Forum:Some thoughts on Smashwiki's recent activity
Though this has been going on for a while now, I feel like opening up on some thoughts on the wiki activity recently. I've been looking around recently. Judging from today's and yesterday's recent changes, I can divide most activity into three simple categories;
- Brawl requests
- User page/Sub page edits (hello SSB4 roster fad)
- Minor edits to existing articles
My point being, though yes I understand we have a Wanted Pages queue, I suppose we either just lack the information to make them or are too busy fussing over the three points I made above. We still have an active community editing though. What I'm trying to address is that our community's heart is certainly in the right place, just not the right time. At the same time, several other wiki affiliates are lacking information. I find it best to bring it up here given all the crossovers from many franchises. Here is a list of some Wikis that could totally use some editing personnel.
Personally, Smash Bros. turned me on to some good franchises I had never heard of. And I'm sure they have to many of you. Nowadays, though, you probably found a franchise's most recent release on Wii or DS or whatever. Considering so, below are wikis lacking information on recent series releases whom take part in Smash Bros;
- In no particular order, and I only point these out with the best intentions of helping them;
- Donkey Kong Wiki still lacks level articles for the most recent Donkey Kong game, Donkey Kong Country Returns. In fact, some vandals copy pasted some articles from MarioWiki, which still aren't completely cleansed.
- Icaruspedia could use some assistance in covering Kid Icarus: Uprising. It's cool how Kid Icarus' comeback reflects the wiki's comeback.
- Wikirby is short some articles on Kirby's Return to Dreamland. If you love 2D Kirby that isn't yarn related, you'll love this game.
- Wikibound is in need of expansion on their Mother 3 article. I know the games are Japan exclusive but Smashwiki has more than enough Mother fanboys to help out there.
- Fire Emblem Wiki lacks coverage of Radiant Dawn. Yeah, the one with Ike and the green haired guy.
Even if you just look at the links and give a blank stare more empty than the soul of Electronic Arts, I hope I am making some sort of point, if slightly exaggerated or over-caring. I hope this wasn't too much of an outcry. I don't have a problem with you making friends and sharing opinions, nor are these thoughts directed at any one person in particular, but remember what wikis are for.

- This is nothing new at all. Userpage edits have been around forever and will continue to be. And again, as long as the Wiki is being constructively contributed to, there's no problem with this.
- Minor edits to existing articles

- It's always "the right time". Just because others Wikis are lacking doesn't mean this Wiki shouldn't be contributed to.
- At the same time, several other wiki affiliates are lacking information.
- That's their problem, not ours. Do not berate the users here for those Wikis' lack of activity.
- but remember what wikis are for.
- Despite your claims, users are still contributing constructively to the Wiki, with minor and major edits. Just because it isn't all work is not a problem.
