The Skill parameter has been removed from Smasher infoboxes, and in its place are the new "Best historical ranking" and "Best tournament result" parameters. SmashWiki needs help adding these new parameters to Smasher infoboxes, refer to the guidelines here for what should be included in these new parameters. |
When adding results to Smasher pages, include each tournament's entrant number in addition to the player's placement, and use the {{Trn}} template with the matching game specified. Please also fix old results on Smasher pages that do not abide to this standard. Refer to our Smasher article guidelines to see how results tables should be formatted. |

Forum:Possibility of adding a small online results section for each character
From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki
Jump to navigationJump to search
Every character in Ultimate so far has garnered quite a few offline results. However thanks to COVID, the competitive scene has been forced into online tournaments at a regular basis. Even though pros disregard online as non-notable, I feel that all the hard work that people put into trying to win these online tournaments should at least be given some noticeablity, especially if online is going to be used more frequently. As such, I'm proposing that we add a small section underneath Inactive Offline players that show results of a few players that have garnered noticeable results in the online world. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Birdygamer1122 (talk • contribs) 12:56, January 24, 2021 (EST)
- Support, though we should figure out what qualifications a player would need in order to be displayed in such a section. This would vary with each game. Señor Mexicano (talk) 13:28, January 24, 2021 (EST)
- Oppose. Contrary to what many people think, the notable player section is not a trophy board. It simply lists those who have made a notable impact on the competitive scene because of their high placements or advancements to the metagame. Online players aren't considered because not only can anyone enter online tournaments as long as they have the game and an internet connection, but the unstable connection and input lag in the tournaments are often criticized and is why most top players such as Dark Wizzy and Light look down upon it. While I admire the dedication the Wi-Fi Warriors have, listing them would only bloat up an already-bloated section that are in dire need of clean-up. Cookies

- One concern I would have is that if you kept the lists to 2-4 players it would be predominantly made up of players that would already be notable enough offline with that character. Also, I agree with Cookie. The metagame is different online and off. So we would be bloating the section by expanding it. That said I'm holding off on putting oppose as I do see some benefit of having separate notes on the online game. Wiifitkid (talk) 13:58, January 24, 2021 (EST)
- Oppose. C&C honestly said it better than I could. WiFi sucks, people know it, and it doesn't exactly do anything beneficial for the competitive scene. Aidan, the Rurouni 16:03, January 24, 2021 (EST)
- Oppose. Now, competitive play is a huge role in each players becoming a professional player, I do appreciate this forum and how online could be a prominent part of notable players from active and inactive in character pages, but even if online has been forced because of the COVID-19 Outbreak, the difference on offline are more notable because of the major differences, on connection, or no connection. This difference on how online metagames for smasher pages shouldn't be considered top-professional IMO, nor any notable results in each character pages in competitive play based on online. - Oppose. As someone who has experience with playing online, C&C took the words out of my mouth. Online is laggy, even though I have great internet connection, I have nothing else to add.
