Article on Super Mario Wiki Dixie Kong

Dixie Kong (ディクシーコング, Dixie Kong) is Diddy Kong's girlfriend and a major character from the Donkey Kong series.

Origin[edit]

Dixie Kong from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Used as the basis for her trophy in Melee. Note the knee-pads she used to wear and lack of earrings.

Dixie Kong originates as Diddy Kong's inseparable girlfriend and partner in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. She stood out from the rest of the playable Kongs by using her blonde ponytail as a propeller to briefly hover in the air. This is mostly used to help with alignment to land on platforms. She went on to appear in the starring role in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! alongside Kiddy Kong. Since then, she has been one of the main recurring characters of the Donkey Kong franchise, as well as minor appearances in the Mario franchise. Her original design in the SNES games had her beret feature a Rareware pin to coincide with Diddy Kong having the Nintendo logo across his hat, though this feature was removed in all of her appearances following Rare’s acquisition by Microsoft in September 2002.

Dixie is very brave and has a love for adventure, especially with her boyfriend Diddy Kong. She is also friendly with most other Kongs, particularly her cousin Kiddy Kong and her younger sister Tiny Kong. While Dixie can be childish and a diva at times, she is also very energetic with a tomboyish streak, participating in many sports and always ready to pick a fight. She loves gumballs, always blowing bubbles and even using them as ammunition for her gun. She also knows how to play the electric guitar and is seen playing one several times.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]

Dixie Kong appears as a trophy.

More than just Diddy Kong's girlfriend, Dixie Kong is also a fearless adventurer and a reliable team player. She earned her wings helping Diddy rescue Donkey Kong from the clutches of King K. Rool. Dixie's amazingly quick and nimble, and she's even able to twirl her ponytail in order to float slowly through the air.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Dixie was a scrapped design for a playable character, as evidenced by leftover references for "dixie". According to Sakurai, Dixie Kong was intended to be teamed with Diddy Kong, where the two could be tagged out for each other in the midst of battle, similar to how they played in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest; the idea, however, was cut after he ran into technical issues with implementation of the idea, and only Diddy Kong appeared as a solo fighter in Brawl.[1]

In the final game, Dixie Kong appears as a trophy and a sticker of her and the DK Bongo drums. She is also referenced in an alternate costume for Diddy Kong.

As a costume[edit]

Dixie's Hat.

Dixie Kong serves as the basis for the Dixie's Hat Headgear.

Spirits[edit]

Dixie Kong also appears as two primary spirits.

Dixie Kong can be summoned using the cores of Tiny Kong and Candy Kong.

Dixie Kong uses an Isabelle puppet fighter and is fought on the Jungle Japes stage. She is fought along a pink Diddy Kong. During the battle, the Banana Peel items appear, referencing the Kongs' shared love for bananas, while Isabelle starts off with a Super Leaf, referencing Dixie Kong's signature move, Helicopter Whirl, which allows her to glide across the stage and reduce falling speed.

Dixie Kong & Kiddy Kong can be obtained by enhancing the Dixie Kong spirit at level 99.
