Madama Butterfly, Mistress of Atrocity, is a demoness from the Bayonetta series. She serves as Bayonetta's primary contracted demon partner. She, in exchange for Bayonetta's soul upon her death, grants Bayonetta her immense size and strength to aid her in battle. As a result of her pact with Madama Butterfly, Bayonetta is capable of performing Wicked Weaves, Witch Walk, and even grants Bayonetta temporary use of her wings when double jumping.

In Super Smash Bros. 4

Bayonetta's smash attacks are Wicked Weaves which summon Madama Butterfly's limbs. Bayonetta also uses Madama Butterfly's wings when double jumping, and Bayonetta's shadow takes is in the shape of Madama Butterfly as well, as in the Bayonetta games.

Origin

Bayonetta with a full body summoned Madama butterfly, battling a massive angel, in Bayonetta 2.

Madama Butterfly is said to be one of the most powerful denizens of Inferno, to the point she is well known among its inhabitants as a being to be both feared and respected. It is said that any Witch to be able to form a Contract with her would be granted immeasurable strength and wisdom. In the first game in the Bayonetta series not much is known about her, even her face is left a mystery to those who do not own the games official Artbook.

Her role is greatly expanded in Bayonetta 2 as Bayonetta goes from simply summoning her limbs, to summoning her torso for powerful headbutts and body slams, and even full body summons in order for her to fight alongside Bayonetta against massive opponents. She even plays a minor role in the story as when Bayonetta ventures to Inferno to save the soul of her friend Jeanne, she finds out a Demoness named Alraune was responsible for Jeanne's death outside of her contract. Initially Alraune cares little for Bayonetta intruding in her castle, however upon finding out she was contracted with Madama Butterfly Alraune attacked Bayonetta due to a vendetta she had against the stronger Demoness.
