Pikachu takes part in Target Blast in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

Target Blast (スマッシュボンバー, Smash Bomber) is a gameplay mode that appears in the Stadium of Super Smash Bros. 4. The player is tasked with inflicting damage to a bomb on a special platform, then launching it into a structure composed of various blocks, filled with Targets and other rewards. The bomb starts at ten seconds and once the player attacks or touches it, the clock will start. When hit with a powerful attack, the bomb is sent flying, after which its regular trajectory will destroy most objects in its path; after ten seconds have passed in the mode, the bomb will then explode, destroying any objects around it, as well as potentially starting physics-based chain reactions due to the blocks around the bomb being dislodged. As a result of this, much of the strategy in Target Blast comes from deciding on when the bomb should be sent. It is also possible to earn trophies and custom parts. The Wii U version has three stages, while the 3DS version has only one.

Players have two attempts to send the bomb flying, and the score is based on the combined score of both attempts. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, the two bombs are the same size, but in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the second bomb is bigger. If the player fails to send the bomb out of the specialized platform before the time runs out, they will receive a score of zero for the run. Breaking all fourteen red targets awards the player with an additional 30,000 points.

The scores in this mode are used as part of Global Smash Power.

Trivia

  • The explosions of the bomb used in Target Blast has well over enough power to OHKO in normal conditions. It also completely fills Little Mac's Power Meter instantly.
  • In a Pic of the Day on Miiverse, Masahiro Sakurai mistakenly refers to Target Blast as Target Smash, a mode that is not available in Super Smash Bros. 4.
  • This minigame bears resemblance to the popular mobile game Angry Birds, where the focus is to topple buildings and destroy target enemies through the use of projectiles launched from a distance.
