X, also known as Mega Man X, (ロックマンエックス, Rockman X) is the protagonist of the Mega Man X sub-series of the Mega Man universe.

X is one of the several incarnations of Mega Man summoned by the classic Mega Man as part of his Final Smash, Mega Legends.

Origin

In the year 20xx, Dr. Light, the genius who created Mega man, worked on an update to the original model of Mega man, one which would have much more capacity for free will. He was named Mega man X (X for short) and was placed in a special capsule. He would undergo a series of tests to make sure he knew right from wrong. These tests took 30 years. Dr. Light knew that he wouldn't make it to see his creation come out, so he left a warning on the capsule so no one opened until the tests were complete. After an unknown period of time, a man named Dr. Cain found X in his capsule. Light had died by then, and Cain, seeing that the thirty year test was done, released X. Cain was astounded by the work he Light had done. He made copies, and eventually had an entire group of reploids, as he called them. Eventually, it was discovered that Dr. Wily, Mega man's former rival, had made a reploid of his own, named Zero. Zero brought in a virus that made reploids hostile, called the maverick virus. Sigma, a high ranking maverick buster, went to take care of Zero himself. He cured Zero, but became infected by the virus in the process. He made his own strand of the virus, and infected nearly every reploid with it. Zero and X, unaffected by the virus, set out to defeat him.
