For Super Smash Bros. 4, trailers have been released to reveal all the newcomersand some veterans. They consist of original animation and gameplay videos showcasing the characters' special moves. When introducing a newcomer, a splash art with a line of text is displayed.
Villager
Villager's trailer, shown at E3 2013, began with Villager receiving a letter with the Smash symbol on it. He is then shown excitedly running through the town while the animal citizens look at him with surprise. The open envelope drifts down, catching Tom Nook's eye. The trailer then shows off Mario, Link, Samus, Kirby, Pit, Fox, Donkey Kong, and Pikachu. Gameplay clips are shown, revealing Bowser in the process. Mario and Bowser have a fight on the Boxing Ring, and Mario is taken by surprise when he is caught by Villager's butterfly net. Following that, several gameplay clips of him are shown. Finally, the trailer ends with the logo of the game being shown.

Robin and Lucina
Robin and Lucina's trailer, titled By Book, Blade, and Crest of Flame, begins with a wounded Chrom lying on the ground while his daughter Lucina is facing off against Captain Falcon. Lucina is knocked down and Captain Falcon is about to Falcon Punch her when he is suddenly interrupted by several blasts of Elwind. Both fighters then glance up at the source of the attack, who reveals himself to be Robin. Robin assures Lucina that everything is going to be alright. Some gameplay clips of him are shown, and then Lucina responds that she will fight by his side. Some gameplay footage of Lucina is shown, and then both comment on how they are facing the Hero-King himself and the radiant hero of legend. The trailer cuts to Chrom, who decides that he'll get his chance another day. Shortly afterward, a clip of him assisting Robin in his Final Smash is shown, and the trailer ends with a brief showing of the female Robin.
Shulk
Shulk's trailer, titled as Looks like we don't have a choice, begins with Bowser running around Gaur Plain, coming to a stop and roaring. Behind the grass is Shulk, who leaps into the air and attacks Bowser with Back Slash. He then has a vision where he is seen to be knocked away by Link and Marth. Shulk begins to fight them, until he jumps and slides away, revealing the Monado's power. At the end of his trailer, Shulk encounters Metal Face.
