I vote we get rid of the categorization of 'technique'... it's simply another type of attack - Ashran111 02:43, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, it's a really, really basic technique. More than just hitting a button, I guess? FyreNWater - (TalkContributions ) 06:56, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

grab

i use the wiimote only for controllers so i dont know about other controllers. but i can do smash attack by tapping direction and grab button too Lucas-IV- Try to Talk Lucas alive.PNG 02:06, 16 July 2011 (EDT)

That is because the grab button isn't actually a grab button, but rather a button that inputs both a shield and attack. As such, you can attack with the "grab" button when you're unable to shield, including doing smash attacks with it. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 02:20, 16 July 2011 (EDT)

Timing

Does anyone know the frame window between tapping a direction and pressing attack for a Smash Attack to occur? Does it vary by character and/or direction? Would be useful information to add to the article. FirstaLasto 23:37, 3 July 2014 (EDT)

Well, I know that in Brawl, you have to push the stick 80% sideways in 5 frames to f-smash, and 66.25% vertically in 4 frames to u/d-smash, but I can't find how long after that you can press the attack button to get a smash attack. I think with f-smash it can be anytime before dash turns into run, and for u-smash it can be anytime before you jump off the ground, but for d-smash I have no idea. Toomai Glittershine ???
