Nintendo announced that at E3 2014, there will be a tournament between 16 competitors. Additionally, Sometime during E3, participating Best Buys will have a demo of the game.

Nintendo Special Big Band (任天堂スペシャルビッグバンド); a concert at the Japanese 2014 Super Music Festival (超音楽祭) plays Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Kirby, Animal Crossing, Pokémon and Super Smash Bros. music.

Yoshi is confirmed as a returning playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. Veteran characters Zero Suit Samus, Sheik, and Charizard also return, all confirmed to now be stand-alone characters. Greninja is confirmed as a newcomer. Many other elements of the new games are confirmed in the Super Smash Bros. Direct presentation.
