Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! Though new requests for fights can no longer be made, voting on already existing requests can be done here.

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
  2. You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.
      • Similarly, avoid writing votes that may invite an argument. Stating your opinion is fine, but don't make it easy for others to see it as goading.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Users should not fix such broken votes without making them half-votes. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion.

Multiple votes are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in your vote being discounted entirely, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.

Round 205: Taunt cancelling vs. Moonwalking

Winner!!

While they do have their uses, these two techinques mostly just look cool. Which jaunt has more jam?

Votes for Taunt cancelling

  1. Most normal taunts don't annoy your opponent. Taunt cancel spam in SSB64 does. wheeeeeee o‿O Scr7Scr7 sig.png(talk · contribs) 10:19, 21 September 2013 (EDT)

Votes for Moonwalking

  1. Oh come on, Captain Falcon is the better example for moonwalking. Why Fox instead of him? Dots MewtwoMS.png The Player 11:17, 21 September 2013 (EDT)

Which incarnation of what many call "story mode" reaches the top?

Votes for Adventure Mode (SSBM)

  1. In b4 Brian LightningBlue405MS.png 01:57, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  2. The arcade style is much more fitting in Smash. Plus it wasn't a huge development sink that detracted from everything else. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 02:11, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  3. SSE was the worst o‿O Scr7Scr7 sig.png(talk · contribs) 04:10, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  4. I like beating up Giga Bowser with DK. Boo BuddyHaunter MS.png 13:07, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  5. I don't really care for huge, epic stories in video games, so I like the melee version of adventure mode better.TheAtomicFire BluePichu.png 20:22, 15 September 2013 (EDT)

  8. You can play as any character, and I can play this multiple times. SSE, I only play once to unlock the characters and that's it. Lol SSE is gonna win --MMAI.pngMeMyselfAndI 10:52, 20 September 2013 (EDT)

Votes for The Subspace Emissary

  1. I'm totally going to get shunned for this. :D FluffyCon Airconny Snake Sig.png 00:02, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  2. The story mode of Melee is boring. Awesome Cardinal 2000 07:44, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  3. definitely SSP's for sure has the fight of tabuu and he is the most hardest boss in Nintendo's historySmash X 5432 (talk) 09:03, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  4. Doing Adventure Mode with 25 characters was a drag, I was quite happy playing through SSE seventeen times. There's some nice cutscenes to be had here, and more importantly, boss battles. I can't make a Let's Play of Adventure Mode, either. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatum 09:07, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  5. Marth And Meta Knight working together was just the spot-on definition of "omagawt". WashiWashi signature.png 09:41, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  6. I like how this gave the Smash Bros. series an adventurous story that is quite similar to Kirby Super Star which I have to say is my favorite Kirby game. While I don't like how the Subspace Emissary makes short hops harder to perform, you can at least use your c-stick for smash attacks and aerials in Brawl solo mode unlike Melee's single player mode. 7. Felt more like an adventure than a scripted classic mode. 75.156.151.217 11:08, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  8. I always liked getting the characters in this one. Plus it's fun! 107.211.34.20 12:06, 14 September 2013 (EDT) 14 September 2013
  9. I returned to the Smash Arena after a long time. Everything seems the same, xD Well, I guess I'll vote for SSE as it has epic cutscenes.106.78.80.239 12:16, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  10. When I first heard SSBM had an Adventure Mode, I was excited for when I got it. Then when I saw what you had to do in it, I got dissapointed. The Subspace Essimary's Great Maze creeps me out, but I'd rather play the SSE.--LavaKirby 13:47, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  11. Maybe they focused on this a bit too much, but I really like it. --Timson622222 (talk) 15:29, 14 September 2013 (EDT)

  13. By my opinion, the SSE is one of the best stories in videogame history.-Kaizer24.185.135.102 22:28, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  14. It is longer and more exciting I like it94.97.230.111 23:50, 14 September 2013 (EDT)
  15. It makes it so much easier to unlock characters--Pichu+Pichu (talk) 21:23, 15 September 2013 (EDT)
  16. I actually like both, but varied storylines, characters from different universes working together, and being able to unlock characters quickly is what gets me. Why would Sakurai remove storylines for the next smash game? ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) 22:53, 15 September 2013 (EDT)
  17. The SSE gets too much hate. I don't get why. The story was fun and Adventure Mode got old much sooner. Megamanmario4 (talk) 22:45, 20 September 2013 (EDT)

Half-votes

I'm surprised you don't know that comments like this are unnecessary, useless, and pointless. Scr7Scr7 sig.png(talk · contribs) 11:08, 16 September 2013 (EDT)
I believe that's an acceptable comment. As long as he/she doesn't comment on how close or one sided, or starting an argument, it's fine. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) 17:43, 16 September 2013 (EDT)
