Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! Though new requests for fights can no longer be made, voting on already existing requests can be done here.

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
  2. You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion.

Multiple votes are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in your vote being discounted entirely, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.

Round 194: Articuno vs. Zapdos vs. Moltres

Articuno Trophy Melee.png
Zapdos Trophy Melee.png
Moltres Trophy Melee.png
Winner!!
undecided

~ to ~ to ~
The three Legendary Birds control Kanto's weather and are top-tier legendaries in Melee. Which feathered forecast-flounderer flaunts fan favour?

Votes for Articuno

  1. Ew, not this fight. And how the fuck did Pichu win the last one? I have no faith in you guys. DoctorPain99 13:07, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  2. Ice, which is Articunos type, is the coolest type. BRAWLS BoFSig.png OF BoFSig.pngFURY 13:16, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  3. It's Ice, I mean, it's cool, am I right? -- Conny Airconny Snake Sig.png 13:46, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  4. I'm partial to the cold and Articuno freezes enemies like popsicles and sends them flying to oblivion. 67.166.229.4 16:59, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  5. Ice Ice Baby. Terrible is Terrible 10:49, 7 July 2013 (EDT)
  6. 75.31.4.16 16:37, 8 July 2013 (EDT)

Votes for Zapdos

  1. Fire-flying and Ice-flying have double weaknesses to rock (making Stealth Rock hazards very dangerous), whereas Electric-Flying gives Zapdos immunity from ground and cancels out an electric weakness. Mr. AnonAnon.pngtalk 13:15, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  2. Looks cooler imo. Scr7Wolfsig.png 13:19, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  3. Stealth Rock, as Mr. Anon mentioned, is an extremely reliable move in competitive Pokémon. Articuno and Moltres would lose 50% health then because of double weakness to rock type attacks. Although Zapdos also has a weakness to rock type attacks, it only loses 25% of its health. In addition, I have to say its a pretty powerful special sweeper if you ask me. Dots MewtwoMS.png The Saxaphone 13:23, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  4. It's a bird that doesn't get hurt by any electric types. Giratina 720Giratina720.png 13:36, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  5. I've always been partial to electric types, and I'd be shocked if Zapdos didn't win. He'd never give a cold shoulder, and he's right in the middle of this heated debate. Pun, pun, pun. --HavocReaper48 15:44, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  6. Now I was never hardcore about the 3 legendary birds, but just saying "Zapdos" just feels so metal. Plus, it's a thunderbird. THE Thunderbird.MegiBeelzebub MegiBeelzebub.png 17:07, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  7. Come on guys. This is the ELECTRIC LEGENDARY BIRD. Even someone who doesn't know a thing about pokemon knows that electricity is better and stronger than fire and ice.TheAtomicFire (talk) 20:10, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  8. Yay! Sonicmario22 (talk) 09:04, 8 July 2013 (EDT)
  9. Everybody Polkamon! ChuckNorris24.png 16:58, 9 July 2013 (EDT)

Votes for Moltres

  1. Zapdos is by far my pokemon out of these three (and was my favorite overall before Tyranitar). But when it comes to being a pokeball pokemon in Smash, Moltres stomps the other two. Flaming OHKOs every single time, you just can't match that. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 13:53, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  2. Moltres is my favorite of these three. Only Lugia matches Moltres in terms of KO power.Boo Buddy (talk) 14:04, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  3. I like fire. Btw do Wii Fit Trainer Vs. PKMN Trainer. --Dinoboy411 (talk) 22:05, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
  4. Strongest of the three. Articuno does not have a one hit ko attack and Zapdos is unlikely to ko an opponent at all.71.118.254.198 20:44, 7 July 2013 (EDT)

Round 193: Kirby (SSBM) vs. Pichu (SSBM)

Kirby SSBM.jpg
Winner!!
Pichu
Pichu SSBM.jpg

9 to 13
Pichu SSBM.jpg
These two pals just can't get it together in Melee's tournament scene, having been fumbled around in the bottom quarter of characters for the game's entire lifespan. One of these two will move on to represent Melee in a future low-tier showdown - who will it be?

Votes for Kirby (SSBM)

  1. Kirby is my favorite fictional character ever. --Dinoboy411 (talk) 12:27, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  2. KIRBY IS THE BEST!!!!!!!! --Kirbyman (talk) 13:33, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  3. I have never been the biggest fan of Pichu (understatement), and still believe him to be the absolute worst in Melee, as well as the worst concept for a fighting game character ever conceived. DoctorPain99 14:33, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  4. 75.31.4.16 15:21, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  5. I'm a big Kirby fan, and I've secondary'd him in every Super Smash Bros. game. Kirby is a very bad character in Melee, but compared to Pichu, he has a better down smash, up smash, back air, down air, up air, and recovery. Plus, Kirby is a little heavier and has longer reach, though the differences in these areas are nearly unnoticeable. Kirby lasts longer against Pichu anyway given that Pichu hurts itself with its own electric attacks. Pichu only has better speed, throws and KO potential, but those don't redeem him enough to place him above Kirby. Pichu is probably the shittiest, stupidest, most uninspired character ever conceived for a Super Smash Bros. game (or conceived period). Pichu is also perhaps the second worst of all the baby Pokemon, the first being Azurill (though Azurill is easier on the eyes). blue ninjakoopa 20:08, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  6. Pink. Terrible is Ready for Summer 18:03, 30 June 2013 (EDT)
  7. Wether it be the original, melee, or brawl, Kirby wil always be my best Bulbaking (talk) 13:37, 2 July 2013 (EDT)
  8. I like Kirby more than Pichu. Not to much of an argument, but, Kirby still had some techniques that made him at least more useful than Pichu. -- Conny Airconny Snake Sig.png 09:40, 4 July 2013 (EDT)

Votes for Pichu (SSBM)

  1. First vote :P Anyway Pichu is quite fun to use even though it's really hard to do well with him. Scr7Wolfsig.png 12:09, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  2. Pichu's probably my favourite character in the Smash series. Not to play as, just the character. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 12:14, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  3. Pichu is the cutest thing ever! Also, finally mine got picked! Woo!Luke5176 (talk) 12:24, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  4. True Kirby is my third favorite Nintendo character but Pichu is the pre evolution of my favorite Nintendo character, Pikachu. Plus this is a sympathy vote, and the fact that Melee Kirby is completely outclassed by every character. Dots MewtwoMS.png The Lamp 12:39, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  5. Though I do enjoy a good Kirby game every now and then, my favorite short film will always be the Pichu Brothers. --Fireemblemlogo.pngFan275 13:49, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  6. Pichu for me, because it's a Pokémon who needs to win a battle. Plus, I wouldn't mind if it makes a return in the next Smash game. I could add more, but I won't.71.105.121.171 18:07, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  7. Kirby is supposed to have a good recovery, decent power and combo ability and functional grabs. But he has none of those things. He's a trash character who is much better in Brawl. LightningBlue405MS.png 19:49, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  8. Pichu has actual positives, such as good and fast mobility, a really good recovery, and has some sort of kill power. Melee Kirby is good at absolutely nothing, and only has a decent move or two at best. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 20:19, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
  9. Sneaky lil' mofugga. - Ceci n’est pas un Smiddle. 17:58, 30 June 2013 (EDT)
  10. Yeah, a pity vote for the crappiest character in Melee. That's all. 67.166.229.4 18:18, 1 July 2013 (EDT)
  11. Pichu's my lil' bud. ChuckNorris24.png 13:20, 2 July 2013 (EDT)
  12. Kirby is great as a character in brawl, 64, and as a character overall, but I had good childhood memories of playing a game with pichu(with my little brother) in training mode. Even though Kirby is slightly better, I'd go with the baby version of pikachu.(at least in this case) TheAtomicFire (talk) 09:10, 4 July 2013 (EDT)
  13. My sister does pretty well with pichu. 71.118.251.239 23:24, 5 July 2013 (EDT)

Comments

Blue Ninjikoopa, I would say Pichu has a better recovery than Kirby. Kirby's recovery is really predictable in Melee, while Pichu does have quite a lot of ways to return to the stage, like Pikachu. Scr7Wolfsig.png 04:19, 30 June 2013 (EDT)
