Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! Though new requests for fights can no longer be made, voting on already existing requests can be done here.

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
  2. You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion.

Multiple votes are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in your vote being discounted entirely, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.

Votes for Pirate Ship

  1. It represents The Legend of Zelda (a franchise I prefer over Mario), and it doesn't scroll.71.105.121.171 22:32, 10 May 2013 (EDT)
  2. No platforming involved. 204.191.134.186 23:42, 10 May 2013 (EDT)

Round 186: Zelda vs. Samus

Samus SSBB.jpg
These two are slower and stronger than their fleeter forms and utilize various forms of energy to blast opponents away - who wins the age-old battle of magic versus technology?

Votes for Zelda

  1. Zelda's name is in the title in her own series, and Samus's isn't. That, and I feel Zelda deserves a little support.71.105.121.171 10:31, 4 May 2013 (EDT)
  2. 204.191.134.186 11:51, 4 May 2013 (EDT)
  3. I'm not a Zelda fan, but I'm going to start giving her a chance real soon. 67.166.229.4 14:04, 4 May 2013 (EDT)
  4. While I'm no expert on the Zelda series, I find Zelda herself to be much more developed than Samus. Sure, Samus has a great backstory, but most of the stuff Samus does isn't explained, leaving the player to guess her motivations. While that works in her series, I'm going to count it against her in this match. Plus, I just wanted to vote for Zelda anyway. JamesJH-Heartless.pngHeart 17:44, 5 May 2013 (EDT)

  7. Naked Snake 200px-Naked Snake.jpg 19:17, 6 May 2013 (EDT)
  8. Hi I'm Fenix 02:13, 8 May 2013 (EDT) Her moveset is awesome and the most of her attacks are able to make a great damage, her ability to switch into Sheik make her even more awesome (and yeah she's my favorit from SSBB).
  9. On the basis of the Smasher, Samus, if only for her more reliable down-air. But because I barely use either character, I'll make my vote based on the character, where Zelda takes it. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 19:26, 8 May 2013 (EDT)
  10. I really don't know which character I like better, so I'll tie it up to make things interesting. ChuckNorris24.png 20:54, 9 May 2013 (EDT)
  11. The Legend of Zelda is my favorite video game series. 50.92.113.54 17:51, 10 May 2013 (EDT)

Votes for Samus

  1. Samus has a power suit, shoots missiles, and drops bombs. Zelda can't do any of that.Baconlover9090 (talk) 08:58, 4 May 2013 (EDT)
  2. Bombs and bazookas beat magic tricks all day. infernape612 09:58, 4 May 2013 (EDT)
  3. I have no idea how to use Zelda.84.92.35.200 12:13, 4 May 2013 (EDT)
  4. samus has a power suit she has a charge shot missles bombs and a screw attack zelda has magic tricksRoyalRapids (talk) 19:37, 4 May 2013 (EDT)
  5. I support her because she's the one with the tragic past. SmashBall the Bologna (talk) 10:32, 5 May 2013 (EDT)
  6. She doesn't need to be rescued. Princesses who need rescuing are annoying. --RoyboyX Talk 10:42, 5 May 2013 (EDT)
  7. Samus can fight for herself, which is awesome for a female, while many other girls will have to rely on their boyfriends to do stuff for them. If I had a girlfriend, I hope she doesn't tell me what to do. Per RoyboyX. Dots MewtwoMS.png The Metal Gear 14:15, 5 May 2013 (EDT)
  8. As a character, Samus is much developed than any incarnation of Zelda. Mr. AnonAnon.pngtalk 15:57, 5 May 2013 (EDT)
  9. Samus has awesome potentiol when it comes to combos, and that Dair is amazing.Fedorakeeby11Yellowkirby.png Potato potato potato!! 16:04, 7 May 2013 (EDT)
  10. The only games of each of these franchises I've played are Spirit Tracks and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. And IMO, Corruption doesn't get boring after about two seconds. Also Samus kicks far more ass than Zelda. Lugiaboy202 (talk) 17:37, 9 May 2013 (EDT)

In Brawl, Zero Suit Samus actually has more KO moves than Samus. Maybe you should change the description. Awesome Cardinal 2000 09:44, 4 May 2013 (EDT)

I think the next battle should be sheik vs zero suit samus RoyalRapids (talk) 09:01, 5 May 2013 (EDT)

There's already a battle between Sheik and ZSS 173.79.214.38 15:43, 5 May 2013 (EDT)

A rematch can be done if it happened over 100 rounds ago. Awesome Cardinal 2000 16:20, 5 May 2013 (EDT)
But the match has to be tied in order to have a rematch as well 173.79.214.38 16:56, 5 May 2013 (EDT)
No, but ties tend to get more support. JamesJH-Heartless.pngHeart 17:46, 5 May 2013 (EDT)
