A list of changes I'd like to see for the next Smash Bros. game.

General

  • Keep all characters, and declone the semi-clones.
  • Declone all Final Smashes.
  • Tether recoveries should not be able to be used until 2.5 seconds after grabbing the ledge, and no edge grab limit.
  • Characters with tether grabs should be able to use their respective grabs as tether recoveries. They should cover a shorter distance but not cause helplessness.
  • Remove random tripping, but keep tripping in attacks (banana peels, etc.)
  • Characters should not sink downwards in water unless in hitstun. (To prevent stalling using moves like Mr. GW's down aerial)
  • Characters should lose all invincibility after letting go of a ledge.
  • Allow stages from all three previous games to return (like the Mario Kart series).
  • CPUs should never self-destruct when using a move on stage (Level 1 Yoshi using Egg Roll, Landmaster, etc.)
  • Star/Screen KOs should grant the point for KOing as soon as the animation begins.
  • Remove all infinite/0-death chain grabs/grab releases.
  • All characters should have the exact same grab release animations (Wario, Ness/Lucas).
  • Remove all stage sections that hinder certain characters' recovery (Frigate Orpheon, Green Hill Zone, etc.)
  • When hit in their fallen animation, characters should immediately return to a standing-hit animation. (Removes the jab lock and laser lock)
  • Remove Faux Super Armor.
  • The initiator of a grab-based Sacrificial KO move should win when both players are at one stock.
  • Characters should receive 6% instead of 3% when hit out of a throw.
  • Rapidly tapping the attack button should not continue a rapid jab.
  • Tapping downwards on the smash stick on Classic Controller should not initiate a fast fall down aerial.
  • Perform sliding down smashes and DACDS.
  • The first hits of jab combos should always have set knockback to lead into the last hit.
  • Trip getup attacks should have invincibility frames.
  • The area on the Control Stick for inputting Special Moves should be equal in all four directions.
  • All rapid-fire attacks (neutral attacks, Flamethrower, Angel Ring, etc.) should be easily SDIable and techable.

Single Player Mode

  • All characters should have unique target smash levels with no items.
  • Remove explosive items from Multi-Man Mode.
  • Remove all alternative storylines in the next Adventure Mode.
  • Sandbag should be grabable in Home Run Contest.
  • In Home Run Contest, a barrier protecting the bag from flying to the left should be created.
  • Characters and stages in Classic Mode should have no set universe/theme. Make the order random, and randomly choose the characters and stages.

Multiplayer Mode

  • Allow stocked stamina battles (once a character runs out of HP, they should disappear and respawn on the platform).
  • Improve Spectator Mode on Wifi.
  • Allow people to have friend requests and block players on With Anyone.
  • Allow replays over three minutes long to be saved.
  • Rotation should be able to be used for less than four controllers.

Characters

Diddy Kong

  • Change nair to a tail attack.
  • Peanut Popgun should produce a powerful explosion and a supercharged flaming peanut when fully charged.
  • Rocketbarrel Boost should be angle-able when uncharged.
  • Diddy should be able to pull as many banana peels as he wants, but when he pulls a third banana peel, the oldest banana peel will disappear.
  • Banana Peels should last longer.

Donkey Kong

  • Add super armor to some of his stronger moves.
  • Dash attack should have more knockback scaling.
  • DK should always win when using Kongocide.
  • Giant Punch should not cause helplessness in midair.
  • Spinning Kong should gain more vertical distance.
  • Change Final Smash.

Falco

  • Fair should have less ending lag and more knockback on the last hit.
  • Remove sourspots of uair and fsmash or make them stronger.
  • Remove the laser lock.
  • Reflector should have slightly higher base knockback.

Fox

  • Give him better damage racking abilities.
  • First four hits of fair should have set knockback and better lead into the last hit.
  • Dair should have a more powerful meteor smash at the last hit.
  • Blaster should have less ending lag.
  • Fox Illusion should do more damage and have more knockback.
  • Fire Fox should have more knockback.

Ice Climbers

  • Add 10-20 frames of invincibility to the opponent after every throw.
  • Bring back the Melee hit with Ice Shot.
  • The Ice Climbers should be able to climb their own Iceberg.

King Dedede

  • Down tilt should no longer have set knockback, but be a chain throw at low percents. It should chain grab Jigglypuff until around 30%.
  • Give him an explosive hitbox when eating explosive items.
  • Dedede should always win when using Dededecide.
  • Only neutral attack and dash attack should throw Waddle Dees.
  • Waddle Dees should be unable to be eaten.
  • The last hit of dair should be a meteor smash.
  • Jet Hammer should have a longer lasting hitbox, less startup lag when uncharged, and give a horizontal boost when used in midair.

Kirby

  • Change dtilt to his sliding attack from many Kirby games.
  • Sourspotted usmash should have more knockback.
  • Nair should have less ending lag.
  • First hit of fair should have set knockback.
  • Bair should have a longer duration.
  • Dthrow should have less ending lag.
  • Give an explosive hitbox when eating explosive items.
  • Kirby should always win when using Kirbycide.
  • Kirby's copy abilities should have the exact same properties as the original (Mr. Game & Watch, Falco).
  • When knocked back a certain launch speed, Kirby should have a 10-20% chance of losing his copy ability.
  • The projectile of Final Cutter should not have set knockback.
  • When Kirby emerges from Stone on the ground, he should not end up in the air.
  • Cook Kirby should do more damage and knockback.

Link

  • Slightly increase horizontal air speed, midair jumping height, and Spin Attack distance.
  • Bring back the rapid sword attack from Melee as his neutral attack.
  • Second hit of fsmash should have more knockback.
  • First hits of usmash and fair should lead into each other better.
  • Later frames of dair should be a meteor smash.
  • Arrows should do more damage and kill fully charged at around 250%.
  • Link's falling speed should be reset when he pulls a Bomb.
  • Triforce Slash should ignore platforms (removing the Triforce Slash glitch).

Lucas

  • Remove grab release problems.
  • Fsmash should reflect projectiles for a longer duration, at a greater speed, and more damage.
  • First three hits of dair should lead into each other better.
  • Dthrow should have more knockback, or give him a different KO throw (fthrow, uthrow).
  • Zair should do damage in midair.
  • PK Freeze should not cause helplessness in midair.
  • When used in midair, PK Fire should continue if Lucas lands during it.

Mario

  • Fireballs should have transcendent priority.
  • Improve tilts, in particular dtilt.
  • Sourspotted fair, bair, and/or dair should have KO power.
  • F.L.U.D.D. Should have less charging time and push opponents farther.
  • Mario Finale should be harder to escape from at the sides.

Meta Knight

  • Remove transcendent priority in all attacks except for fsmash and Dimensional Cape.
  • Change the neutral attack so it doesn't cover all sides.
  • First hits of usmash should lead into each other better.
  • Change fair or bair.
  • Uair should have more ending lag.
  • Dair should be a meteor smash if it connects at the center, and have diagonal knockback at the sides.
  • Dair should have more startup lag.
  • Decrease knockback of all his aerials, glide attack, and dsmash.
  • Mach Tornado should have hitlag.
  • Shuttle Loop should go more vertical distance but not end in a glide.
  • Remove the Infinite Dimensional Cape.
  • Galaxia Darkness should do more damage.

Ness

  • Remove grab release problems.
  • Fsmash should have increased knockback, and reflect projectiles for a longer duration, at a faster speed, and with more damage.
  • PK Flash should not cause helplessness in midair.
  • Ness should continue to use PK Fire if he lands in the middle of it.
  • PK Thunder should either have transcendent priority or pass through opponents without disappearing.

Olimar

  • Blue Pikmin should have more powerful throws but less powerful ground and aerial attacks.
  • Pikmin should immediately come back to him once End of Day ends.

Pokémon Trainer

  • Get rid of Pokémon Trainer and have three individual Pokémon without stamina.

Samus

  • Increase fastfalling speed.
  • Usmash and/or fair should have KO power, and the hits should lead into each other better.
  • Increase knockback of Charge Shot and Super Missile.
  • Zero Laser should only transform to ZSS if the taunt button is held.

Sheik

  • Allow Sheik to be selected when using a random character.

Snake

  • Make him lighter (about the same weight as Captain Falcon).
  • Decrease knockback of neutral attack, fair, and dtilt.
  • Hits of dair should lead into each other better.
  • Remove the grab release glitch.
  • Snake should be unable to use any special moves after using Cypher.
  • C4 should be placed on the exact same location of every character (maybe on top of their head).

Sonic

  • Increase knockback of usmash.
  • Uair or fair should be a KO move.
  • Bair should have less startup lag.
  • Homing Attack should gain no initial vertical distance.
  • Remove the stalling of Homing Attack.
  • His Spring should be a spike.

Wario

  • Remove grab release problems.
  • Fair should have more range.
  • Dthrow should have increased base knockback/knockback scaling.
  • Wario should always win when using Wariocide.
  • Wario Waft should never be able to self destruct, and give him super armor when fully charged.

Wolf

  • Give him 25 frames for meteor canceling instead of 60.
  • Blaster should fire a little later if the Melee hitbox connects, but have the same ending lag.
  • Increase knockback of uair, dair, and usmash.
  • Increase fastfalling speed.

Yoshi

  • Change meteor cancel frames from 25 to 15.
  • Increase KO power of his smashes.
  • First three hits of Bair should have set knockback.
  • Yoshi should be able to grab the ledge using zair and Egg Lay.
  • Yoshi should be able to eat items using Egg Lay. Small items produce an egg that breaks open as one piece of food, big items produce three pieces of food, and explosive items produce an egg that explodes randomly after at least one second producing high knockback.
  • Egg Roll should have faster horizontal air speed.
  • Egg Throw should gain more vertical distance in midair, and be less based on momentum.
  • Yoshi should be able to grab the ledge while using Yoshi Bomb.

Zero Suit Samus

  • Remove power suit pieces if she starts the match.
  • Allow Zero Suit Samus to be selected on the character selection screen.
  • Allow Zero Suit Samus to be selected when using a random character.
  • Power Suit Samus should only change back to Samus if the taunt button is held.
  • Transform to Samus if the taunt buttons are rapidly pressed (like Samus to ZSS).

Items

  • Gooey Bombs should be able to stick onto a passing character.

Fan

  • Decrease fanning speed, increase knockback, or remove completely.
  • Ice Climbers should at the exact same time when not desynched.
  • Fanning speed should be equal for all characters.
