The Epita Smash Arena was a tournament presented in April 2007 by Poilon and the SSBUP and held within the Epita school.

Events and rules

ESA featured 2 main Smash tournaments:

• Saturday: Singles
• Sunday: Teams

A crew match opposing France and The Netherlands was also organized.

Rules

Singles

• No items.
• 4 stocks.
• Stages allowed : Final Destination, Dreamland 64, Pokemon Stadium, Yoshi Story and Fountain of Dreams. No other stage is allowed.
• Pools were best of 3.
• Results of pools determined the seeding of the bracket.
• Double Elimination Bracket was best of 3 for the beginning of the bracket.
• The rest of the bracket was best of 5.
• Finals were best of 7.
• Double blind pick was possible for the first match of a set.
• The stage for the first match of a set was random between Final Destination, Dreamland 64 and Pokemon Stadium.
• After the first match, loser picks the stage, then winner picks character, then loser picks character.
• Stalling was completely forbidden.

Doubles

• No items.
• 4 stocks.
• Stages allowed : Final Destination, Dreamland 64, Pokemon Stadium and Yoshi Story. No other stage is allowed.
• Double Elimination Bracket was best of 3 for the beginning of the bracket.
• The rest of the bracket was best of 5.

Reception

ESA was extremly well received by almost every smasher attending it, due to its excellent organization. Most players who attended it consider it as the best European tournament ever. This extreme popularity explains the high umber of players who want to attend ESA2, its sequel in February 2008.
