Chimchar is one of the three starter Pokemon available to new trainers. It is the fire-type starter, and can be chosen over Turtwig or Piplup. It evolves into Monferno starting at level 14. Chimchar are based on and have the charateristics of chimpanzees. Being very quick, Chimchar are able to climb the rocky ledges of tall mountains, where they live.
Their flames do not go out in the rain, and, unlike the tail flames of Charmander, those of Chimchar go out when they go to sleep.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Chimchar appears as a collectible Trophy.
