Puff Up
Puff Up is Jigglypuff's Final Smash. During it, Jigglypuff grows to multiple times its normal size. It takes up more space than the Iceberg. It can be avoided by correctly timing a recovery move, assuming you can avoid touching it completely. Fall back onto the stage when Jigglypuff starts to deflate. However, when it touches opponents, they take no damage. The attack loses potency on large stages (i.e. Temple) because it is very easy to simply run away and let Jigglypuff waste the attack. Because of its rubbery, flexible exterior, opponents bounce off of it when it is at the peak of its growing, potentially knocking people off stages when it bounces. Jigglypuff then starts to shout, and anyone touching it as it deflates will take damage (18%) and is a OHKO. Also even if someone isn't touching it, if they are close enough they will feel considerable knockback. Jigglypuff then shrinks to normal size. While it is shrinking, opponets can still take damage.
- Jigglypuff's size before using the final smash affects the size it grows to. In giant mode, it grows to a size where only its face is visible on screen.
There is also a glitch in the game where the terrain is some stages (mainly Bridge of Eldin) touches Jigglypuff and knocks it out of the move yet it remains the same size it was when it was forced out of the Final Smash. Also, if Yoshi (or Kirby with Yoshi's ability) uses his Egg Lay on Jigglypuff after this, its size doubles. Its size resets for a split second when it uses the Final Smash again.
As a pun on its enormous size and on Giga Bowser, this glitch Jigglypuff is often called "Gigalypuff" by fans.
Trophy Info
Jigglypuff's Final Smash. It wills its body to get bigger and bigger and bigger. It can't move, and it can't attack--all it can do is get bigger while everyone else looks on. However, it's invulnerable, and it overpowers all attacks to gradually push its opponents off the screen. It's a very simple technique, but how it's used determines its effectiveness.
Trivia
- The Final Smash will hurt Jigglypuff's allies even if Friendly Fire is Off.
- Puff Up is not an actual attack in the Pokemon games. (Though is certainly similar to Jigglypuff's Expand move on some Pokemon cards.)
- On the Spear Pillar stage, on the top section, it is easy to avoid Puff Up, but is very effective on the bottom section in the middle, where it takes up the whole stage.
- A glitch similar to ROB's glitch can happen on Bridge of Eldin. In order for it to work, the player must us Puff Up during anytime the bridge is rebuilding itself. Jigglypuff should be the size it is when it uses Puff Up, but it stays like that permanently. Jigglypuff can grow bigger from Yoshi's standard special, which can double Jigglypuff's size, until it becomes too big and turns into a Star KO. When Jigglypuff dies, the glitch will end.
