Texas
Texas is a Smash region that encompasses the U.S. state of the same name. Due to the significant travel time it takes to traverse across the large state, Texas is further divided into smaller subregions, surrounding its largest cities: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin.
Texas was home to a significant Super Smash Bros. Melee scene since the game's early competitive life, notably hosting the major events MOAST 3 and MLG Dallas 2006. However, the region became better known for being one of the big four Super Smash Bros. Brawl regions (along with the Tristate Area, Southern California, and Florida) for most of Brawl's competitive lifespan thanks to the WHOBO series and the performances from players such as Gnes, Trela, and Ultimate Razer. Though the inactivity of its players right before the release of Super Smash Bros. 4 weakened the region, it continued to grow throughout the 2010s, thanks to the rise of tournament series such as Low Tier City and the appearances of many larger esports events in Texas, including DreamHack and PAX Arena. As such, the region became known for hosting some of the strongest Super Smash Bros., Smash 4 and Project M scenes in the United States, with many players rising to the national spotlight during this time, such as Cosmos, Lima, Sethlon, tacos, and Zero. Though it weakened once again in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate after the decline or absence of the region's best Smash 4 players, the post-COVID-19 pandemic period saw the region rebound thanks to the rise of new players such as Salt in Melee and SHADIC in Ultimate, as well as MuteAce moving to Texas during this time.
