DELTA 8.5 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate superregional held in Ota, Tokyo, Japan, on August 25th, 2024.

Tournament Summary[edit]

The tournament was tiered as an A-tier on the LumiRank 2024.2. However, due to a limited number of top players (only one player ranked in the top 20 of LumiRank 2024.1), the event is not recognized as a major on the wiki.

Shuton (1st seed) won the event without dropping a set, by defeating uame (9th seed), Reno (13th seed) and double eliminating KEN (2nd seed) in grand finals. In fact, not only did Shuton not drop a set, but the only game he dropped the entire tournament was to Kebanga (81st seed).

The event saw a number of surprising upsets and deep runs. 3 of the top 8 finishers were seeded outside the top 8, uame, Reno, and Mao (36th seed). Reno finished 3rd by upsetting Eik (12th seed) and M0tsunabE (7th seed) while Mao finished 5th by defeating Ezs (29th seed) in group stage, Maister (3rd seed) and Gorioka (10th seed) in top 48, and Akakikusu (4th seed) in top 8.

Some other notable runs included yuzu (35th seed), Akari Mizunashi (92nd seed), Rinoha (86th seed), Kebanga , No.8 (90th seed), and Dynamite (114th seed). yuzu placed 9th after upsetting Maister and Natsu (30th seed) in group stage, and Taikei (14th seed) in top 48. Maister, ended up placing 17th after being upset by Mao and yuzu.

Akari Mizunashi run to 13th began by upsetting Maipan (37th seed) in a close game 5 set. After two stocking Maipan's Zelda, Maipan would switch to using a combination of Falco and Wolf. Akari Mizunashi would follow this up by upsetting Futari no Kiwami Ah~! (28th seed) 3-1, and Shirayuki (5th seed) 3-2. In top 48, he would lose to Eik, 3-1, before beating Kyou (38th seed) 3-1, and then would lose to Mao, 2-3 for 13th.

Rinoha would finish 13th despite losing their first round against Kou (43rd seed). Rinoha would win 8 sets in loser's notably upsetting ElleGo (22nd seed), Ryopei (27th seed), and Tarame (33rd seed). Kebanga would also finish 13th after upsetting TRIGGER (48th seed), kept (17th seed), and Tomisa (49th seed) in group stage, and chicken (18th seed) in top 48 while only losing to Shuton and Akakikusu.

No.8 and Dynamite would both place 17th after upsetting sssr (20th seed) and NaNo (39th seed) and Huto (15th seed) and chicken respectively.

Some other notable upsets during group stage included LiiMac (61st seed) over Akakikusu, mute (110th seed) and TAKENOCO (83rd seed) over Rimu (19th seed), and nukoeru (144th seed) against Gachipi (16th seed). Kept would lose to Gachipi for 65th as a consequence of both him and Gachipi being upset in pools.
