Ice Climbers (SSBU)/Grab
Overview[edit]
The leader of the duo moves their mallet aside to grab at nearby enemies with their dominant hand. While holding an opponent, their partner is made unable to move alongside them, though this can be circumvented with desyncs and/or input buffering.
The grab itself can be used for desyncing. Since the ZL and ZR buttons can do things besides grab, such as airdodging or throwing an item. One of the most beginner friendly means of desyncing involves simply grabbing and buffering a special move, causing the partner climber to use it at the exact same time rather than six frames later. This then leads to the desync due to the 2nd Climber's wider buffer window.
While grabbing offers near endless utility for the Ice Climbers specifically, its mediocre speed and miniscule range make it one of the worst grabs in the game.
