Cyan Can[1], also known by the tags NsayneLayne, Sushigi, among others, is a competitor originally from Arkansas who mains Luigi in Smash 4 and Luigi in Ultimate. Cyan Can was a high level player in Smash 4, and was arguably the best player in central Arkansas before Phenom entered the scene. Cyan Can took a set off of Aerolink at Mid-South Championships 2016, who was the best player in Texas at the time, and has several regional results overall, as well as many local results. His biggest achievement was taking a whole tournament over the region of St. Louis and winning $1,000[citation needed]. Cyan Can also has arguably the best results of any doubles player in Arkansas in Smash 4 and Ultimate overall. Cyan Can was ranked on all SSB4 Central Arkansas and Statewide Arkansas Power Rankings within the top 6.

Although he played less often in Ultimate, his skill level remained roughly the same. Cyan Can placed top 3 in doubles and top 8 in singles at GDEX 2019, a regional tournament in Ohio, as an unranked player at the time. He also has another handful of Ultimate local results. Cyan Can took a set off LumaDooma while he was ranked #1 in Northwest Arkansas and Fort Smith. Cyan Can is currently ranked 6th on the North Louisiana Season 5 Ultimate Power Rankings.

In other Smash games, Cyan Can plays Melee and has gotten ranked 5th on the Arkansas Melee 2022 Power Rankings co-maining Luigi and Dr. Mario, with his best Melee performance being a top 16 placing at Sunshined 2022. Cyan Can has also organized Melee tournaments in his local region, both online and offline. In Smash 64, Cyan Can has results maining Kirby, mostly in the region of Memphis, where he was PR'd in the top 5 for a brief period, and he was PR'd in Arkansas for a short time in Project M maining Luigi.

Controversy[edit]

Over the course of his playing career, Cyan Can has had controversial bans for multiple reasons in multiple regions, starting with a permanent ban from Elrox's tournaments in 2017. These bans were originally due to having extreme, dangerous mental breakdowns at events, which led up to a period until 2019, where he would quit playing the game outside of small tournaments in Arkansas Tech University for two and a half years after grabbing a venue owner by the shoulders and shaking them while having a mental breakdown and trying to get out the venue. After this period, Cyan Can reintegrated himself into the scene, after which he was omitted from his local PR before talking to local TOs about ban appealing and writing an apology letter on facebook for his actions in the community, as well as apologizing to the person which he physically contacted, where he was told that the person didn't remember the incident happened, but was forgiven. This was then followed by another half year break from the game entirely. Cyan Can's ban appeal was accepted in 2022

However later that same year, Cyan Can was omitted from another PR & banned again in central Arkansas after developing numerous social conflicts with his local scene & posting a picture of himself with a noose online; then proceeding to have extreme breakdowns online about his reputation in the community afterward. Cyan Can was trying to host tournaments; specifically for Melee, and was told not to enter the Ultimate bracket at one of the tournaments where he hosted a Melee bracket. These conflicts would lead to Cyan Can threatening legal action, which he wrote a document for but never went through with. He would then compete in North Louisiana and Northeast Arkansas, and host a small tournament in El Dorado, while in talks of trying to mend his status with the Central Arkansas again. During this period, Cyan Can threatened self harm towards Lightshow, saying "I was going to cut myself and write on the wall," then snapped at Safe, over an edit by an anonymous user to his wiki page named "Ultimate hater," cut his own arm, and broke down at the Arkansas Melee community & Buffington. This would cause him to get banned from the Arkansas Melee discord and put under a 2 month "suspension," in North Louisiana, where they would leave him on the PR for that season. Towards the end of this period, Cyan Can broke down in the Shreveport server and told he was banned for a year. Cyan Can has tried express consistent shame/guilt for his actions in the North Louisiana & Arkansas Melee community, but has continued to get banned.

Cyan Can would move to Murfreesboro, TN, to attend Middle Tennessee State University while using an alternative tag and his middle name. Cyan Can was then given a role as an assistant coach for the MTSU Rocket League team. He would also be placed on the B team for the club. After putting the teams together, the head coach of the Rocket League team became absent and Cyan Can took charge as the next in line. Due to his personal trauma, Cyan Can would leave the server briefly then drop out of the B team to focus on coaching. This would upset another member on the B team greatly, which caused social issues and for them to quit, which ultimately led to him getting fired from the position. Cyan Can would then insult someone who spoke out against him in the club, the same person later gaining his position. However, he apologized to him & to his team. Then, the absent head coach would come back, saying they would coach the team next semester, and Cyan Can would snap at him for taking no responsibility. Cyan Can would then try to advertise his local tournament, in the same town, in the MTSU server, after being omitted from the MTSU PR, and the ad was taken down by the head admin. During this period, Cyan Can would enter and leave the MTSU server multiple times for space. Cyan Can would insult the person for taking his ad down, and was informed of a ban from the club by Jambazi, where he would then breakdown at both Jambazi and Justice in DMs, making graphic comments of self harm while having PTSD episode. During the period he was alting, Cyan Can had joined old servers he was banned from on alt accounts. Cyan Can would then come out to the local community in Tennessee, and was banned from the Tennessee Melee discord.

Cyan Can would join the Mana Monthly community following his ban from Tennessee Melee, and eventually, run away from the area after participating in a few more events. Following a loss at an event where his phone went off, Cyan Can would promote Mana Monthly as well as an anti-trans comment in the same message, and snap at someone from his college saying "thanks for the ban." After posting this, Cyan Can would continually post alt-right content on his timeline, to a point he'd say "I now identify as the best Luigi in the confederate states." This would cause him to get banned from the middle Tennessee community, although he states that was intentional, and subsequently from Shoals, Alabama. While posting these on his timeline, Cyan Can would enter the Smash Scene in Jacksonville Fl, under the tag "Broskio," with his other middle name, claiming to be from Jasper Florida. Cyan Can was dating someone, who he moved in with, and ultimately broke up with. While Cyan Can was in Jacksonville, he hosted a tournament called "iShortHop," which had over 20 entrants as well as melee & ultimate, before leaving. Once he left, he came out as who he actually was, and was immediately banned for alting & transphobia. Cyan Can would start up his own tournament series called United Destination, after being banned, and would still continue to say homophobic/transphobic remarks for a while. During a period he had taken down both a video & his twitter account because of these remarks, Jax Smash would post a ban statement where he was having a breakdown over it, as well as misinformation about the comment made in Lightshow's DMs. Cyan Can would then try to explain himself, and make an apology video after.

As of June 21, 2024, Cyan Can is banned from most regions in Tennessee,[3] Shoals, Alabama,[4] Southaven, Mississippi, and statewide in Arkansas, and Louisiana.[5] He is also banned from tournaments in Jacksonville, Florida.[6] Cyan Can has referenced his mental health and disorders as reasoning for his actions in many since deleted tweets, as well as a previously reverted and unsourced edit to his own wiki page where he talks about his own ban.[5]

Trivia[edit]

  • Cyan Can always wore crocs at events.
  • Cyan Can has took a set off of Arby in a low tier bracket with Bowser.
