Latios (ラティオス, Ratiosu) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Creature description

Latios was introduced in the 3rd Generation of Pokémon media as one of a pair of twin dragon-like birds, the other being Latias. Latios are always male and Latias are always female, and Latios are distinguishable for having a blue body and a more serious complexion. Like Raikou, Entei, and Suicune from the 2nd Generation and Mesprit and Cresselia from the 4th Generation, Latios is a "wandering" Legendary Pokémon; one individual Latios roams the game world, and your encountering it in a particular area occurs completely my chance, and if you want to try to catch it you must encounter it and weaken it repeatedly and try to catch it multiple times, since it will always run away the first chance it gets.

As the Pokédex explains, it is highly intelligent and understands human speech and has the ability to make another life form see an image of what it has seen or imagines in its head. It is in possession of telepathy, which means that even in hiding, it can detect the locations of others and sense their emotions. It has a docile temperament and dislikes fighting, and it will only open its heart to a Pokémon trainer with a compassionate spirit. By folding in its forelegs to minimize air resistance, it can fly faster than a jet plane.

Latios and Latias featured in the fifth Pokémon movie, Pokémon Heroes, where it shares Latias' ability to turn somewhat "invisible" by refracting light. In the Pokémon RPGs, Latios is more offensively oriented, and if given a unique item called the Soul Dew, Latios becomes an immensely powerful battling force. It has a unique Psychic-type attack named Luster Purge.

As a Poké Ball Pokémon

When summoned, Latios disappears off to the side. Then for a period of time, like a blue bullet it will zoom back and forth across the screen, doing damage and knockback to who it makes contact with. Latias also appears. Normally this move is difficult to avoid, but it can be avoided by using a recovery move like Pit's or Snake's to hover by the upper blast line. Latias & Latios mainly go horizontal while doing their attack, so it will usually work.
