Recipherus is a retired Melee Sheik main from Los Angeles, California. He was well-known for briefly being considered Melee's best player in the game's competitive beginnings before Ken emerged, back when Tournament rulesets still ran items and had most stages legal, while he would remain Ken's strongest competition in the pre-MLG era. He consistently placed top 3 at all tournaments he entered during this time, while travelling across the US, where he placed 2nd at MOAST and 1st at Snexus 2, and additionally won a then-record-setting $8,000 for 1st at IVGF Northwest Regionals. His dominance in this time period would retroactively get him ranked 2nd by RetroSSBMRank for their 2001-2003 ranking.
In 2004 when the MLG era kicked off, Recipherus would attend the final Tournament Go and Melee's first supermajor, Tournament Go 6, but he would have by far his worst performance yet when he placed 17th. After this he would quietly retire and never compete in a Melee tournament again, as he found it too difficult to keep up with the rising level of competition while having increasingly less time to practice and attend tournaments himself.[1] He would make a reappearance in Brawl shortly after the game released, but after entering a couple tournaments, he would disappear from the Smash community again. He was mentioned in the The Smash Brothers documentary, but was not asked for an interview, despite Recipherus later stating he was open to an interview. In June 2015, Recipherus did an AMA on the Smash subreddit, r/Smashbros, but indicated that he was not interested in returning to competitive Smash, and that remains Recipherus' last known involvement with the Smash community.[2]
