Possible SSB4WIIU release date?[edit]

It says October 28. Awesomelink234 (talk) 17:32, 24 July 2014 (EDT)

Retailers have a long history of "guessing" release dates for games. Unless it originates from a Nintendo source, I wouldn't include a release date from a retailer. Miles (talk) 17:34, 24 July 2014 (EDT)
I just checked on the offical Smash Bros. site, and it said nothing about a release date. Awesomelink234 (talk) 17:38, 24 July 2014 (EDT)
Hence why we should wait to include it in the article. We should be getting an official release date any day now. Miles (talk) 17:54, 24 July 2014 (EDT)

Nintendo France banner inadvertently displaying Super Smash Bros. 4 (Wii U) release date[edit]

There was news of a Nintendo France advertisement that showcased a potential release date of November 21, 2014, but apparently it has been addressed as an error by Nintendo. I guess time will tell of the banner's veracity. Fenyx4 (talk) 11:18, 16 September 2014 (EDT)

Release Date: November 21st?[edit]

I hear it's then. 31.48.26.98 12:11, 25 September 2014 (EDT)

There is no confirmation, although it is kinda widespread. Nintendo of France confirmed that this release date is false for France at least, (which was on one of their ad banners for their game) but this may just be them covering their asses. Either way, it probably shouldn't be mentioned til' we get 100% confirmation. Laikue (talk|contribs) 12:23, 25 September 2014 (EDT)

Amazon Leaks New Features[edit]

Amazon has a stage builder and board game mode listed on their website for the Wii U version.[1][2] Nintendocan (talk) 15:10, 17 October 2014 (EDT)

We have, like, three other discussions about this already, you're a bit late to the party. (check recent changes for them) Laikue (talk|contribs) 15:26, 17 October 2014 (EDT)
Sorry. Didn't notice. Nintendocan (talk) 16:46, 17 October 2014 (EDT)

Master Orders and Crazy Orders[edit]

Since I can't make the edit myself (too new) and they were officially released, should we not; A. Give Master and Crazy Orders they're own page, or B; at least mention them here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Herobrine8219 (talkcontribs) 20:27, 23 October 2014 (EDT)

I'd give Master/Crazy Orders their own page (just one page, though), as they're separate modes from all others. Also, sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). Rtzxy SmashSig.jpeg Smashing! 20:31, 23 October 2014 (EDT)

Concerning character unlockability[edit]

Concerning unlockable characters, how do you know that certain characters are starters in the Wii U version? Is there a source? Tehplanefreak (talk) 20:45, 23 October 2014 (EDT)

Sakurai confirmed it in the latest direct. Laikue (talk|contribs) 21:06, 23 October 2014 (EDT)

Pokemon Stadium 3?[edit]

On the events page, this was shown. The background doesn't appear to match either Pokemon Stadium 1 or 2. Is this possibly a new Stadium? Dracyoshi (talk) 23:26, 23 October 2014 (EDT)

The ground matches 2. PikaSamus (talk) PikaSamus 23:28, 23 October 2014 (EDT)
I don't see why they would entirely change the background of the stage though. The background is closer to Stadium 1, but the giant TV doesn't seem to be visible.Dracyoshi (talk) 23:36, 23 October 2014 (EDT)
Maybe it's the Omega form? PikaSamus (talk) PikaSamus 23:39, 23 October 2014 (EDT)
I don't see why the Omega form would make a difference in the background of a stage that's already pretty flat. I'll start up Brawl and see if either look similar to the picture from that angle, since it might depend on where it's viewed from. Mistiryshak (talk) 23:40, 23 October 2014 (EDT)
Alright, that's done. It's not a definite, but it's probably Pokémon Stadium 2. It pretty much resembles the stage if the brightness was slightly lower, and in between Pikachu and Greninja you can see a blue pretty close to the blue on the sides of the screen. The toplights in the background have bracket-like extensions (sorry, not sure how to describe them) similar to the ones in the picture, and the lower lights around the height of the top of the stage would be in that relative position. The background side-things (again, not sure how to describe them) are also at an angle similar to in the picture. In addition, and I just noticed this, but the screen IS visible in the picture - just showing a video. You can see two Pikachu - the real one, and the one on the screen. It's lower than Pokémon Stadium 2, though. Still, it's more than likely Stadium 2 regardless. I'd take my word with a grain of salt though - I might be over-analyzing or seeing false clues. I should also mention we DO have a Pokémon Stadium 3 - it's called Kalos Pokémon League. Mistiryshak (talk) 23:57, 23 October 2014 (EDT)
I'm not sure how I didn't notice the double Pikachu. They definitely seem to match now that I look at it. Should it be added to the stage template? Dracyoshi (talk) 00:02, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

Let's not jump the gun here; I see no conclusive evidence that this is Pokémon Stadium 2. The two screens and the lighting do point to it, but I would suggest waiting until we get evidence before adding anything in. Qwerty (talk) 00:26, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

It's definitely a new stage though, or at least a stage we didn't know was in the game prior. Should we change it to "Unknown Pokémon stage" for now? Mistiryshak (talk) 00:36, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

The platform and background are identical to Pokemon Stadium 2. I don't see where there's room for confusion. Miles (talk) 00:37, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

Multi-Player Modes[edit]

The Direct announced Classic and All-Star would be two-player, so couldn't those be considered multi-player? SmashBros (talk) 13:06, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

DLC[edit]

Shouldn't Mewtwo (and any further DLC) be separate from the main listing of characters in a DLC section (going Veterans, Newcomers, DLC)? True, he's a Veteran, but he's also not included in the base game, so it can be a bit misleading. Yes, if you read the tiny note at the bottom it indicates the difference, but that feels more like a cheap way to save a couple lines of space to me, and isn't particularly obvious to the causal reader who may likely not be reading every tiny line on the page or doesn't know about the use of italics and such to mark major differences.Jarie Suicune (talk) 13:41, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

We could do a different color text or something for DLC characters and stages like what we do for unlockables..
Zrksyd (talk) 21:16, 25 October 2014 (EDT)

Unlockables[edit]

Should characters that are only unlockable on the 3DS version be mentioned on this page?
Zrksyd (talk) 21:16, 25 October 2014 (EDT)

I wouldn't think so; the page focuses primarily on the Wii U version. Good idea though. SmashBros (talk) 15:29, 28 October 2014 (EDT)
There is actually a singular template shared between all three Smash 4 pages. I agree that the template should be split into Smash 4, Smash 3DS, and Smash Wii U. I find it annoying that there is a distinction based on unlockability in a different version of the game. I would create it myself, but I don't know how. MarioManTAW (talk) 08:49, 9 June 2016 (EDT)

Mathematical Error![edit]

If I recall correctly, the 50-Fact blah blah blah said there would be 40 starter characters in the game, right? And we know that the characters that are now default are Ness, Jigglypuff, Junior, and Ganon, right? Wrong! Because if all four of those characters are default, that's four of the twelve who were unlockable in the 3DS, which makes it 8 unlockable characters in the Wii U version. Then there are 49 characters in Smash 4 (counting each of the Miis as one character), and with 8 of them being unlockable, that makes FORTY-ONE characters that are default. Therefore, logic reasons that Ness, Jiggly, Junior, or Ganon are not default. I think it's Ganon, since I can name screenshots of Ness/Jiggly/Junior on the default roster but not Ganon. ---Previously unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 18:55, 30 October 2014 (EDT)

It said "over 40" (on-screen text) or "more than 40" (announcer voice-over) characters without unlocking. 41 > 40. Miles (talk) 19:59, 30 October 2014 (EDT)
...Ah. Okay. ---Previously unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 12:01, 31 October 2014 (EDT)

SSB for Wii U is actually SSB5?![edit]

Sakurai says that for Wii U is actually SUPER SMASH BROS. 5 because it's too different.

http://kotaku.com/an-in-depth-chat-with-the-genius-behind-super-smash-bro-530744390 72.50.83.221

SmashWiki is not official. We don't do things exactly like Sakurai says. While I agree with him, it's not my decision. PikaSamus (talk) PikaSamus 14:25, 5 November 2014 (EST)

Resize[edit]

The stage table is now too big for my computer to handle without a side scrollbar (which is really annoying), and I have a pretty good-sized monitor... could we resize it slightly? Add an extra row, remove a column? ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 22:04, 5 November 2014 (EST)

Unknown stages?[edit]

UnknownStages.png

I was watching Duck Hunt's trailer again because I was bored, and I noticed these two stages. I think the first one might be Wuhu Island, and the second one maybe Jungle Hijinx, but I've never seen these areas on either stage, so I thought I'd ask... anyone know? ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 22:28, 5 November 2014 (EST)

For starters, I think you got the stages mixed up. Second, while I believe the right one is Wuhu Island, I'm not sure about the left one. It might be Jungle Hijinxs, but I'm not too sure about that. Rtzxy Reflect.jpg Reflect!!! 22:37, 5 November 2014 (EST)
The crystalline one is most likely the Great Cave Offensive. Mistiryshak (talk) 22:39, 5 November 2014 (EST)
Left is Great Cave Offensive, right is Wuhu Island. Nintendocan (talk) 23:19, 5 November 2014 (EST)
I think Great Cave Offensive is the most likely, but again, I've never seen that exact area. Specifically the statues. Should we call them both unknown until there's proof? Because neither of those stages have ever been officially connected, despite similarities. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 07:05, 6 November 2014 (EST)
It's definitely Great Cave Offensive. Compare with its current page picture: while I too can't find that exact area, the crystals are obviously the same, the flowers match and so does the shape of the statue. Who knows, perhaps the stage will feature some variations during gameplay or the images are from different builds. Still not absolutely 100% confirmed, but I doubt it needs to be explicitly marked as an unknown stage on the page. --Menshay (talk) 07:23, 6 November 2014 (EST)
The left is quite certainly Great Cave Offensive's omega form. Miles (talk) 09:35, 6 November 2014 (EST)
The right one is connected to Wuhu Island now, but without seeing the Great Cave Offensive's omega form and those statues never appearing on the normal stage, that is still technically an unknown stage. It probably needs mentioned somewhere, although since it's likely to be connected very shortly, I doubt we should make a page for it. Should we mention it on the Great Cave's page as a possible area or something? ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 12:30, 7 November 2014 (EST)
The statue is just the "face" block that can be seen in the standard stage (look under the "Of" of Offensive or in the top-right), just with a pillar underneath it. Miles (talk) 14:40, 7 November 2014 (EST)
I don't see that... ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 14:52, 7 November 2014 (EST)
You gotta zoom in on the image. Once you do, you'll see that the block in both images are a perfect match. Rtzxy Reflect.jpg Reflect!!! 15:01, 7 November 2014 (EST)
green circles Miles (talk) 15:01, 7 November 2014 (EST)
Ohhh I see. In that case, can I (first crop it better) then add the image to the page as an unknown portion of the stage? ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 15:04, 7 November 2014 (EST)
I believe we just demonstrated that there's nothing unknown about it. It's the Omega version, and that statue is part of how they condensed the giant stage's elements into the background of that. Miles (talk) 15:08, 7 November 2014 (EST)
But it hasn't been shown as the omega form. Which means its unknown. (Although it is definitely the same stage). ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 15:10, 7 November 2014 (EST)
In the supposed Omega version, the statue is on the floor; in the standard version, it's in the wall. Rtzxy Reflect.jpg Reflect!!! 15:12, 7 November 2014 (EST)

(resetting indent) I don't think there's any proof either way, but the grass, jewel, and statue designs are close enough to connect it to the stage, just not in any particular way. I'm adding it with the note "An unknown area of the stage, possibly part of the Omega form." ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 15:23, 7 November 2014 (EST)

It's just the omega form. They've shown the whole stage. I don't understand what's not clear about this. Miles (talk) 15:24, 7 November 2014 (EST)
What if the stage can change appearances slightly, like Balloon Fight? We don't know for sure until we see the Omega form, which we haven't. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 15:26, 7 November 2014 (EST)
Balloon Fight is based on a game with several layouts, and its alternate layouts aren't flat with no hazards. We've seen this flat, hazardless stage with elements of GCO both at the end of the 50-fact Direct (right before the Bowser Jr. trailer) and in the Duck Hunt trailer. It's clear what's going on. Miles (talk) 15:30, 7 November 2014 (EST)
I didn't actually see the flat version, which I'll go look at now, and if they match then yes... but if not, then it's its own area. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 15:31, 7 November 2014 (EST)
You missed it. Please stop being so obstinate about this. Miles (talk) 15:34, 7 November 2014 (EST)
(looks up the definition of obstinate) I may have been obstinate but it was for good reason, IMO. I found no proof of your claims and removed them under belief of them being false. Either way, go on and revert back. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 15:35, 7 November 2014 (EST)

Unofficial attack names[edit]

Note: I posted this same thing on Ness's talk page, but someone pointed out that I should move it to a more relevant and broad page instead of just Ness. This still probably isn't the absolute best page, but it's active enough to where this will probably be noticed.

That aside. What's our policy for the names of a character's non-special? Almost none of them have official names, and yet there are a few pages where every single move in a character's moveset is named, like Mario and Greninja. Were these names decided on by something community-centric like SmashBoards, or did some guy just come in and name them all on his own and we were cool with it? If it's the latter, then I'd be up for giving names to the moves of several characters. Nymbare and his talk 16:17, 21 November 2014 (EST)

VGA[edit]

So...Smash Wii U won best fighting game at the Video Game Awards 2014 (and Smash 3DS lost to a freakin mobile card game...*grumble*). Should this be mentioned to a certain degree? AidanzapunkSig.jpgBlueStreak 13:25, 8 December 2014 (EST)

Glitched copy[edit]

★☆ a Miiverse named T-man said the game had a glitch causing all the characters to be deformed. In related news well not news images have been spreading across the internet. I was going to show a picture about it, but the upload had an error. ☆★ (Smashworker101 (talk) 20:30, 28 December 2014 (EST))

This is rather old news, and I believe it was previously decided to not include it, as glitches that affect only one end user wouldn't be particularly notable. Plus, conversation of this has effectively ended and it didn't become terribly mainstream in the first place.
--- Monsieur Crow, Author Extraordinaire, 20:56, 28 December 2014 (EST)
Ya, it was so last month. Its a good thing that I didn't create a page about it or else you will be in the way like you mentioned in the board. (Smashworker101 (talk) 22:00, 28 December 2014 (EST))

Article rework[edit]

Some of the content in this article seems redundant, as it is already covered in the main Super Smash Bros. 4 article. Perhaps we could pair this article down to only talk about exclusive content with a disclaimer that any content not mentioned is shared with the 3DS version with a link to the main article. The Other Jared (talk) 22:01, October 22, 2023 (EDT)
