Smash Ultimate Summit 5 was a major Super Smash Bros. Ultimate invitational tournament. It was the fifth installment of the Smash Summit series for Ultimate, and was held from September 15th-18th, 2022 at the Summit Gaming House, a private residence house in Los Angeles, California, which is closed to the general public.

Due to complaints that took place during Smash Ultimate Summit 4 as well as a perceived "Summit fatigue," a vote cap was added to the voting stage: a maximum of 100 votes could be earned in the shop, while registering for Mainstage 2022 and any of the qualifiers for The Arcadian gave an additional 100 votes and 5 votes per qualifier, respectively.[1] The voting process itself also received changes: instead of having eliminations and invitations throughout the week, the entire process took place on August 23rd across 4 hours at The Summit Countdown show, with each hour featuring one invitational and a certain amount of eliminations. The total number of votes each player received was also hidden until The Summit Countdown.

Trivia

  • Due to the implementation of a new voting system that limited the number of votes that could be bought per start.gg user, this Summit had the lowest prize pool out of any Ultimate Summit.
  • MkLeo's placement of 9th marks the first time he has missed Top 8 at an offline tournament since Umebura Japan Major 2019 (where he placed 33rd). It is also the first time he has ever missed Top 8 at an offline tournament in North America for Ultimate.
  • ProtoBanham became the first player from Japan to win a Smash Summit in any game.
  • This was the first Ultimate Summit where Grand Finals was not a 3-0 for the Winners' side player. Light won the first set 3-0 from Losers' side, then ProtoBanham won the second set 3-1.
