PAX (acronym for Penny Arcade Expo) is a multi-national series of conventions and festivals centered around gaming. Founded in 2004 by Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, creators of the ongoing Penny Arcade webcomic, the original event in Seattle Washington is now named PAX West, with other events including PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts, PAX Aus in Melborne, Australia, and PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Several of these locations have hosted a national tournament series featuring Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate held in the United States starting in 2015 which has gone under the names "PAX Prime" and "PAX Arena." The series uses standard double elimination format for both of it's featured games. After a four-year hiatus, Smash Bros. was featured at PAX again, with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at Almost Pro.
