Trivia
- Super Smash Bros. Melee is the only game to use placeholders for unlockable stages. Despite having 11 unlockable stages, there are only 5 "?" marked boxes for unlockable stages. The ones not marked with a placeholder are Flat Zone, Special Stages, and Past Stages.
- Additionally, in Melee, with the exception of Flat Zone, five of the unlockable stages match the universes from Smash 64's playable character roster and part of the "Original 10" universes (Mario, Metroid, F-Zero, EarthBound, and Pokémon). Therefore, this may be why Mushroom Kingdom II, Brinstar Depths, Fourside, Big Blue, and Poke Floats appear as "?" marked boxes (placeholders).
- And by extension, Luigi and Mr. Game & Watch are the only two unlockable characters whose unlocking battles do not take place on a starter stage nor a stage from Special Stages or Past Stages but on an unlockable stage which takes place on Mushroom Kingdom II, Brinstar Depths, Fourside, Big Blue, Poke Floats, or Flat Zone. Luigi's unlocking battle uses Mushroom Kingdom II and Mr. Game and Watch's uses Flat Zone.

- Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is the only installment with unlockable stages where playing VS. matches does not unlock an unlockable stage.
