Ultimate, players may use this term to refer to both of them simultaneously when applicable, with the term originating from what Street Fighter players call characters derived from Ryu, a phrase derived from "Shotokan", which is a colloquialism for anyone who fights using his style in the Street Fighter series of games.
In the context of SSBU, Terry shares a couple characteristics with the shotos, such as special cancelling, an energy-based projectile, and automatic stance change to always face the opponent. However, Terry cannot be classified as a "shoto" because he uses a different fighting style, and as such, the distinction does not apply to him.
