Point system

Scoring

Scores are calculated based off of placements, with higher tiered events offering more points for a wider range of placements. The following factors into the final score:

  • Top 3 Platinum results
  • Top 3 Gold results
  • Top 6 Silver results

The top 31 players then move on to the finals, with a Last Chance qualifier for the last slot.

Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic

The coronavirus disease at time of the start of the tour caused a global pandemic where large gatherings and travel were discouraged. As a result, Smash World Tour released a statement[1] on March 12th, 2020 detailing their measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

  • There would be no Platinum or Gold tier events in March and April 2020.
    • CEO Dreamland 2020 was going to be a Gold tier event marking the start of the tour. While it wasn't canceled, its tour points were removed.
    • HFLAN Melee Edition 2020 was going to be the first Platinum tier event, but it was postponed to Fall 2020.
    • Pound 2020 was canceled. It was going to be the first Platinum tier event for Ultimate and the second for Melee.
  • Silver events would continue as normal. However, it was recommended for sick people to stay home.
    • Several events canceled or postponed independent of Smash World Tour's rulings.
  • Missed point opportunities were planned to be made up later.

On April 1st, 2020, Smash World Tour released an update statement.[2]

  • The delay on all Smash World Tour events was extended to June 1st, 2020. Smash World Tour said this would likely not be the last delay.
    • Get On My Level 2020, Battle Arena Melbourne 12, and MomoCon 2020 were exploring new dates.
      • Get On My Level 2020 was postponed indefinitely. It was a Platinum tier event prior to postponement. As of the March 12th statement it would be the first Platinum tier event for Melee and the second for Ultimate.
      • Battle Arena Melbourne 12 was postponed to the second half of 2020, and was a Platinum tier event prior to postponement.
      • MomoCon 2020 was canceled. It was a Gold tier event prior to postponement.
    • The organizers for Umebura Japan Major 2020 had not made a decision at the time, and it would not count towards Smash World Tour. The tournament was later canceled.
  • Missed point opportunities were still being planned to be made up later.
  • A TO relief fund shop was opened on Smash.gg.

On April 13th, 2020, COLOSSEL 2020 was postponed to 2021. It was supposed to be a Gold tier event and the first Platinum/Gold tier event in Europe for Ultimate.
