Forum:Splitting stats on spirits by series lists
I think the title is pretty straight-forward with what the proposal is. When looking at the pages for spirits separated by series (Example Super Mario Series) all of the stats are bunched into a single column. This makes it difficult, if not impossible, to sort the lists by stat. I think it should be more like the Complete List where it has 6 columns, 2 for each stat with one being for lv.1 and the other for lv.99.
If approved I can do the splitting as I understand this will be a lot of edits to throw onto someone else, though I have an idea on how to streamline it. --CanvasK (talk) 13:41, February 3, 2020 (EST)

Bump There's already been some discussion about this on the disambiguation talk page though the page isn't very active. --CanvasK (talk) 17:51, February 13, 2020 (EST)
- Bumping again after 2 weeks. No one has formally given support, but there seems to be some soft support and no opposition.--CanvasK (talk) 12:44, March 7, 2020 (EST)
Gotta be clear, I will vehemently oppose any attempt to remove the spirit's source game and artwork's source game from the main tables. Restructuring the stat display is one thing, but that is an unacceptable consequence given this information's importance. Miles (talk) 17:54, February 13, 2020 (EST)
- I'm personally only interested in the stat display portion. It is unfortunate that both proposals on that page are put into a single overarching one, which is one of the reasons why I made the stat proposal separately here.--CanvasK (talk) 18:07, February 13, 2020 (EST)
So lemme see if I understand this: The only thing changing is the stat columns being split, everything else will be left the same? OmegαToαd64 06:18, February 19, 2020 (EST)
- Correct. My proposal is strictly about splitting the stats column. I'll leave changes to anything else to a separate proposal. (I've added proper sections for voting. Forgot to do that on creation) --CanvasK (talk) 07:51, February 19, 2020 (EST)
I have an old, not-up-to-date proposal about this sort of thing here. I completely agree that grouping two numbers in one column is incorrect. Toomai Glittershine The Riotous 06:51, February 19, 2020 (EST)
Off-topic: moving the game/artwork origin column[edit]

- I don't understand why some people seem to take "moving an information from a table to another" as "removing an information", once again, I did not propose to remove the columns, I proposed to transfert them from the arrays where they don't make much sense to the array where they do: the primary/support/master/fighter spirit arrays are about the spirits gameplay stats, while the series array is about the spirits history; the primary/support/master/fighter spirit arrays are arrays where the spirits are separated by types, while the series array contains all the spirits of the series. It makes way more sense to list the origin game and the artwork game with the spirit series. Also there is no "main" table, and we can make the origin array the first one on the page if anyone is so butthurt about the idea not to see the origin game first when loading the page (but I think "importance" is not a thing, "usefulness" should be the thing to be considered when ordering informations, a wiki is not made to please its contributors, it's made to provide efficiently informations to whoever seeks them, and in that regard, I bet on the acquisition column being the most useful). - Oh, my bad, not "some people", that's actually the same person. OK, Miles, I have a challenge for you: Give me a reason as why this column is so important that it need to be the first thing top of the page other than an authority argument or your personnal feelings. Give me a reason as why the game/artwork origin has anything to do with any other column in the primary/support/master/fighter stats. And give me a reason as why it's a good thing that the game/artwork origin are separated by primary/support/master/fighter spirits. I gave you two very pragmatic arguments: game/artwork origin should grouped with series as both informations are related to the spirit history, and game/artwork origin should be in an array listing all the spirits as it concerns all of them and regardless of their type. So far, you don't seem to have any other argument than "I said so". YoshiRyu (talk) 05:35, February 19, 2020 (EST)
- And actually, I'm going to do a bit of your job here for you: even if it has downside (as not displaying first something most wiki user are going to be looking for), putting a game/artwork origin and series array first would also make some sense as the page would subconsequently start with a complete list of the spirits rather that the partial list that the primary spirits is. So having a Spirit Origin section, followed by the Primary/Support/Master/Fighter Spirits sections, and then the Spirit Battles and Trivia section would have some merit to it (and in this case, if we go with some kind of "proper order", the Fighter Spirits should probably also be listed before the Primary Spirits). Do not move: remove. Or at the absolute least, throw them under the image as a tiny footnoote rather than having them waste space in their own columns. Source game and artwork source are false information; unlike stickers, they are not part of SSBU in any way. Toomai Glittershine The Riotous 06:51, February 19, 2020 (EST)
- I'm not sure about what you're saying there. Are you saying that game/artwork origin shouldn't even be on the wiki to begin with as they're not official information? I wonder how you feel about the Spirit Battles inspirations column... Anyway, the initial proposal about moving that information is there: https://www.ssbwiki.com/Talk:List_of_spirits_(disambiguation)#Spirits_Origin_section if you want more details about what was proposed exactly, and if you want to participate in the discussion. YoshiRyu (talk) 07:22, February 19, 2020 (EST)
- Perhaps removal outright is a bit extreme, but yes, I think that since the game itself does not list origin game/artwork, it should not be treated on the same level as the technical data. Battle inspirations are fine. Toomai Glittershine The Incomprehensible 07:00, February 20, 2020 (EST)
