Shield damage in Melee is not taken 1:1 from hitbubble damage
I wanted to find out how much total shield damage the different stages of Marth’s Shield Breaker do. I assumed that stage 5 (charge for exactly 120 frames) would always cause an instant shield break if the sword hitbubble connects (27 damage + 38 extra shield damage = 65). However, when I tested this, the victim was left with a small shield. Thus, it seems to me that not all of the base damage is converted to shield damage, but more like 75 or 50% of it. Has anybody found out the exact calculation formula? Kadano talk 05:43, 29 May 2014 (EDT)
- I've heard from various sources that shields in Brawl take 0.7x damage from normal attacks (it's also noted on the shield page in the statistics tables), maybe the other games have something similar. Toomai Glittershine The Spectrum 10:38, 29 May 2014 (EDT)
- Thank you. I modified Marth’s tipper jab 1, which has 0 additional shield damage, to deal 85 and then 86 damage. 85, just below 60/0.7, didn’t instantly break the shield. 86, just above 60/0.7, however, did. So I think it’s safe to say that Melee uses damage*0.7 as well. Kadano talk 16:48, 29 May 2014 (EDT)
Does anyone know how they nerfed shield damage on proyectiles on patch 3.0.0?
Did they just put lower shield damage on the moves or do they now have a different multiplier than the other moves?
