Panda Global Rankings
The Panda Global Rankings (PGR) was a biannual list compiled by Panda Global Gaming's PG Stats team ranking the world's top 50 professional players in the international tournament scene for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
The Panda Global Rankings were compiled entirely from the analysis of major tournament results (Though initially, results from smaller local events were also taken into consideration). Beginning with the third iteration, a system titled the "Tournament Tier System" was introduced that tiered events based on attendance count and the amount of PGR-ranked players. A point-based version of the Tournament Tier System was later introduced for the PGR 100. Also beginning with the third iteration, an extended section of the rankings titled "Area 51" listed the players that had just barely missed the top 50. A separate and subjective ranking titled "X-Factor" lists the top players via voting from a pre-selected panel of players. This panel of players features groups of players from specific regions. The amount of players within each group is relative to the size and activity of the competitive scene from their respective region.
When Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released, the competitive Super Smash Bros. for Wii U scene seemingly entirely switched over to the new title. As such, the Panda Global Rankings Ultimate has effectively replaced the original Panda Global Rankings.
Trivia
- The PGR's Area 51 is a reference to Area 51, a United States Air Force facility in Nevada that is subject to frequent conspiracy theories due to its secrecy.
