Outdated Information

(given how much editing I've been doing recently, I should probably make an account) Given that this page is protected, I just wanted to say that this article makes reference to the NFC Reader/Writer not yet being released, as well as the Mewtwo amiibo not yet being released (in Europe ) near the page bottom. Maybe also add a reference to how Smash 3DS requires version 1.0.6 to use amiibo with the New 3DS, but needs 1.0.7 to use the Reader/Writer to do the same. 79.64.215.148 00:15, 6 November 2015 (EST)

Super Mario Maker

According to Bulbapedia, "All currently released Pokémon amiibo have been confirmed to be compatible with Super Mario Maker." 84.26.240.80 13:58, 29 July 2015 (EDT)

Other wikis are not source enough. I'd like to see something from a Nintendo source. Miles (talk) 14:51, 29 July 2015 (EDT)

Mario amiibo

The amiibo webiste was updated this morning, and the Super Smash Bros. series Mario amiibo is under the figures that unlock new costumes, so listing it under there as "Gives a new mode would be inaccurate. Only the 30th anniversary Mario makes you big CRT Mario. --NintendoNinjaCarson (talk) 18:11, 12 August 2015 (EDT)

Bowser Jr. IS exclusive to Toys R Us, Dr. Mario is most likely exclusive to Target, Duck Hunt/Game & Watch/R.O.B. are exclusive to Gamestop in a 3-pack

Buuuuuut we don't have "official" confirmation yet. The Bowser Jr. info comes from an incredibly reputable Toys R Us employee, who also told us about Greninja exclusivity, gave us the link to pre-orders early on ToysRUs.com, gave us info about which Wave 4 amiibo weren't in the Toys R Us system (allowing us to deduce that there were three exclusives), and gave us info about the Splatoon three-pack before anyone else. I think it's safe to say that they're pretty reputable.

That said, they're still not an official source, so I don't really think it's worth noting, yet. Dr. Mario is not in the Toys R Us system, whereas he is at Target, so he's also most likely an exclusive. Several Gamestop employees have discreetly leaked the three-pack exclusivity to a mod of /r/amiibo, again, none of those amiibo show up in the Toys R Us system, nor the Target system. Once again, none of this comes from official sources, but it's most likely true. Laikue (talk | contribs) 21:23, 2 August 2015 (EDT)

"Most likely true" is not good enough. Better to report it accurately when it's confirmed for real. Miles (talk) 21:48, 2 August 2015 (EDT)
That said, they're still not an official source, so I don't really think it's worth noting, yet I know, that's why I said this. I'm just letting you know since you said you couldn't find any reason why he'd edit that in. Laikue (talk | contribs) 01:04, 3 August 2015 (EDT)
Here's a source. Aidanzapunksignature.pngAidan, Master of Speed and AuraAidanzapunkSignaturesmall.PNG 23:22, 3 August 2015 (EDT)
Source is reddit, so we're back to square one. The legitimacy of that sheet of paper was called into question by the leakers as well, as no one was told to do those and there are no "official" Gamestop markings on it. Laikue (talk | contribs) 23:27, 3 August 2015 (EDT)
Link I have says the preorder event is this Saturday, so I guess we wait until then? Idk Aidanzapunksignature.pngAidan, Master of Speed and AuraAidanzapunkSignaturesmall.PNG 23:29, 3 August 2015 (EDT)

Shovel Knight?

I know something like this would normally go over here, but I figured it'd be appropriate to being this up here. Discuss. Aidanzapunksignature.pngAidan, Master of Speed and AuraAidanzapunkSignaturesmall.PNG 12:41, 22 August 2015 (EDT)

Shovel Knight devs said it's fake, the image comes from a reddit user named /u/getmeoutofcleveland using ArtsyOmni's art (Guy who did the Rayman leak) (link), and the date is WAY too soon if it IS Smash related.
Now, of course the devs could be lying to cover the leak, and the artwork could be used as a placeholder. Additionally, it may not even be Smash related and may instead be for the upcoming physical release of Shovel Knight. And also the Greninja, Jigglypuff, and Splatoon amiibo were leaked by a Spanish site, so it isn't entirely out of the realm of possibilities. However, everything is assuming at this point, so I think we should wait until we get more info before doing anything about it. Here's a collection of the info btw. Laikue (talk | contribs) 15:06, 22 August 2015 (EDT)
Unless we have conclusive evidence otherwise, we should take Yacht Club at their word. Miles (talk) 15:13, 22 August 2015 (EDT)
I know that it was Artsy Omni's image. I was just pointing the information out. Aidanzapunksignature.pngAidan, Master of Speed and AuraAidanzapunkSignaturesmall.PNG 15:49, 22 August 2015 (EDT)
The box style doesn't match the most recent amiibo box style. It seems to match the original lineup style. Most recent ones have the number and name of the character and translations on the right and "Super Smash Bros. Collection" under the logo. 86.155.132.18 15:51, 22 August 2015 (EDT)

Welp, this happened. Seems to confirm the existence of a Shovel Knight amiibo, but it doesn't look like part of the Smash series. Zyrac (talk) 13:07, 27 August 2015 (EDT)

From what I heard, it actually unlocks content in the Wii U and 3DS versions of SK. Aidanzapunksignature.pngAidan, Master of Speed and AuraAidanzapunkSignaturesmall.PNG 13:09, 27 August 2015 (EDT)
Assuming that this is legit (probably, since it's reported by UK retailer GAME) it's probably going to be formally announced at the PAX event tonight in about 10 hours. Doesn't appear to be Smash-related unless there's more going on here than what was in the deleted tweet. Miles (talk) 13:11, 27 August 2015 (EDT)

Can you still call Miis "Wave 6"?

With the Miis coming out much closer to Mewtwo and Falco in North America than the "rest" of Wave 6, is it really right to continue to call them Wave 6? They might have been intended that way originally, but they sure don't look that way any more. --131.107.147.30 19:46, 24 August 2015 (EDT)

Well, back in June they were announced as coming in September alongside the wave 6 amiibo. The complication is that the "wave" terms have been pretty much dropped from official usage, so we kinda have to ad-lib their usage regardless. Miles (talk) 20:23, 24 August 2015 (EDT)
Considering that it's been dropped all together, I don't see why we shouldn't list them with Wave 7. Laikue (talk | contribs) 21:04, 24 August 2015 (EDT)

amiibo scalping

Considering it's become a huge issue in the amiibo world and even Nintendo is aware of it, don't it you think there should be something about it in the article? User:Torts

No. Let's not give them the attention they want. Laikue (talk | contribs) 17:20, 28 August 2015 (EDT)
If you don't want them getting attention then you're too late to stop that since it's talked about all over the internet. I don't think whether or not the scalping problem on a single article would make much difference. Besides that's not the sort of thing that would encourage them. What encourages them is successfully getting the money they want for the scalped items. User:Torts
Additionally, like stock shortages, it has no place in an encyclopedic environment. Scalpers are nothing new and nothing special to amiibo. Apple products are scalped to death, New 3DSs are scalped, new games are scalped, exclusive controllers are scalped, the Gamecube controller adapters were scalped, and Wiis were scalped like they were made of solid gold. It's nothing special to amiibo and doesn't deserve a mention, it's too common to be notable for one thing. Laikue (talk | contribs) 13:09, 29 August 2015 (EDT)
But there's the effects the Scalping has on people who are trying to get their hand on an amiibo that's been scalped. The Scalping thing is real and it has had an effect on amiibo collectors. Heck there's this one guy who bought every Rosalina and Luma amiibo he could get his hands on with the reason being that he doesn't like her and doesn't want anyone to have her amiibo. And I was just thinking of something along the lines of including it under trivia anyway.
Except it has no place in an encyclopedic setting. Listen, if you think it's noteworthy, go ahead and add it. You'll just get a better explained version of what I just said. If not, then fine, we have it on the page. Laikue (talk | contribs) 22:59, 29 August 2015 (EDT)

Literally any product that has a limited supply will be scalped. It's not a problem exclusive to amiibo, so it's not notable to say "it is a problem" on the amiibo page. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Eggster 12:54, 30 August 2015 (EDT)

Yes...? We already had all the Smash-related amiibo costumes confirmed from the compatibility chart, and I already added a note about Mewtwo and Lucas. Miles (talk) 18:53, 3 September 2015 (EDT)

Yoshi's Wooly World

Can one of the admins make a change to the what it says of the Yoshi amiibo on there? While not incorrect, it doesn't include everything. Using a Smash Bros. (or Super Mario) series Yoshi amiibo rather then the Yarn Yoshi amiibo also unlocks a non-Yarn Yoshi skin..although you have to unlock it in a different way, namely by using the non-Yarn Yoshi amiibo during Gameplay rather then in the amiibo Hut. Here's visual proof.

International waves

I know this is mostly an American site, but with all the staggered release dates I'm wondering if switching to the Mariowiki approach would make this page nicer. (Also the Mii Fighters are already out here in Europe, they were released along R.O.B., Game & Watch and Duck Hunt on 09/25) -Menshay (talk) 06:32, 29 September 2015 (EDT)

Exclusive Problems

So, uh, Villager is now exclusive to Toys R Us, and Shulk, Lucario, and Greninja are popping up at other stores.

What do we do about this? Laikue (talk | contribs) 15:02, 12 October 2015 (EDT)

I think we should restrict ourselves to noting exclusives at launch, or else drop the exclusivity notes entirely and link to an off-site guide in the external links section instead. Miles (talk) 15:09, 12 October 2015 (EDT)
I was gonna suggest something for Villager (fucking edit conflicts), but I think that's a good idea. Aidanzapunksignature.pngAidan, Master of Speed and AuraAidanzapunkSignaturesmall.PNG 15:12, 12 October 2015 (EDT)
I'm missing the problem, why not just change Villager to toys-r-us exclusive and the other 3 non-exclusive? SerpentKing (talk) 15:20, 12 October 2015 (EDT)
We need somewhere to list that they used to be exclusive, or are no longer exclusive. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by BOO! Or maybe Nutta. 15:54, 12 October 2015 (EDT)
Why? SerpentKing (talk) 16:14, 12 October 2015 (EDT)
I would recommend "exclusive at launch", but I can't come up with anything for "multiple stores at launch, made exclusive later". Any other suggestions? DekZek, The creature of your nightmares Dekzeksig-Oct.png 16:33, 12 October 2015 (EDT)

Royu

According to AmiiboAlerts, they've been popping up on amiibo displays and people are photographing them. I can't give you a better source than that, but I find it hard to believe that they are fake. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 07:31, 15 November 2015 (EST)

Colored heads

Now that I have successfully made an alt color head for my Christmas signature, Dekzeksig-Dec.png, I think I can handle coloring the Mario and Mega Man amiibos silver and gold. Yoshi has its own issues, though. Should I do this, at the very earliest I can get one in on Tuesday. Might take longer, as I am completely changing the color scheme. Add Gold Mega Man?

I mean, he IS still using his Smash pose and base. Laikue (talk | contribs) 15:09, 15 November 2015 (EST)

duh Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 15:16, 15 November 2015 (EST)

I dunno... I mean, he's not being released for use in Smash Bros., and unlike Gold/Silver Mario in MP10 will probably have no special function... But he would use a new pose if he wasn't... It could go either way. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 16:26, 15 November 2015 (EST)
Depends on the box. That way, we'll know for sure if it's part of the Smash series. Nyargleblargle.pngNyargleblargle (Talk | Contribs) 16:28, 15 November 2015 (EST)
It doesn't have a box. It only comes with the game. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 16:29, 15 November 2015 (EST)
Every bundle amiibo so far has had a box. I say we leave it for now as there's too much similar between it and the other Smash amiibo. Laikue (talk | contribs) 16:32, 15 November 2015 (EST)
Hmmm yeah this is trickier than I thought. I mean, if it has a Smash base then it's just a Mega Man Smash amiibo with no special function, and a mere change of aesthetics. Maybe it could be mentioned that there's a gold Mega Man amiibo and add a photo or something. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 16:34, 15 November 2015 (EST)
I guess we could make an "other" section just for it... ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 16:35, 15 November 2015 (EST)
Not sure, I mean there's the Legacy Collection mention in the "Other series of amiibo compatible with Super Smash Bros." section. That's probably all that's necessary. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 16:37, 15 November 2015 (EST)
Hmm... I'd like more input before removing it all together, but I think that an other section could work. Laikue (talk | contribs) 16:41, 15 November 2015 (EST)
Do we know with certainty it has the Smash base? Because it's black, but the top should have a gold smash logo but I don't see it in any pictures. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 16:39, 15 November 2015 (EST)
I thought they had an upwards view of it in the direct, let me go check that. Laikue (talk | contribs) 16:41, 15 November 2015 (EST)
Also on the official Ninty site it doesn't list it as any series. Same with Wolf Link.
Yeah there's no golden smash logo at the top of the base to be seen, so it's not certain if it's part of the Smash series or not. It'll probably stand on its own or something. So it belongs in the "other series" section. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 16:50, 15 November 2015 (EST)
Curiously, it's only in the NA direct, the Japan direct doesn't even mention Mega Man Legacy Collection... And no, there's no alternative view. So, with all that said, I'd say to move it to an "other" section or something. Laikue (talk | contribs) 16:51, 15 November 2015 (EST)
Yeah Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 16:53, 15 November 2015 (EST)

Should I try to make a gold head icon for it, or should we wait. Also, what about the Silver and Gold Mario. DekZek Dekzeksig.png 10:30, 16 November 2015 (EST)

Editing head icons is a no-no; there was an unpleasant debate over that a while ago, which ended in the page just having a note saying all colours work the same. Zyrac (talk) 10:38, 16 November 2015 (EST)

Images have surfaced, and it does have the golden Smash base. The official Nintendo site still doesn't list it as a Smash amiibo, however. -Menshay (talk) 08:51, 18 February 2016 (EST)

"Store displays are not a valid source"

I honestly don't understand this. They're all over the country, have high quality pictures of each unannounced figure, have high quality pictures of amiibo that were announced less than a day ago, come straight from Nintendo, and have never been false in the past. I have no idea why you could think that it's not a valid source for the information. Laikue (talk | contribs) 14:18, 18 November 2015 (EST)

It's questionable in my view to allow retailers as a source for amiibo data, especially since there are times where misleading or false information comes about as a result (remember the retailer listing of Shovel Knight's amiibo as part of the Smash series?). If the store information is indeed valid, it shouldn't be long before we see it officially anyway, so it's a short-lived inconvenience at worst. Miles (talk) 14:31, 18 November 2015 (EST)
This isn't "data" in the sense of misinformation, these are actual photos...lol. Papayazzi (talk) 14:35, 18 November 2015 (EST)
The difference between this and the Shovel Knight debacle though is that these are EVERYWHERE. Gamestop, Target, Toys R Us, Walmart, etc. and have brand new images never seen before and accurately show which amiibo are exclusive to where, unlike the Shovel Knight amiibo, which used a fan render and was from one nobody site.
Also, on a side note, they showed the Famicom R.O.B. everywhere, even at Gamestop where it showed both R.O.B.s, I believe this means he's coming to the US sooner or later. Laikue (talk | contribs) 15:39, 18 November 2015 (EST)
FamiROB is a little more ehhh, I would say. But Roy and Ryu (and Timmy/Tommy etc.) are pretty obviously legit. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 15:41, 18 November 2015 (EST)
This kind of boils down to a similar philosophy I have in cases of "this is probably true but hasn't been 100% confirmed and we should know for sure in the near future", which is that we can afford to wait a little while rather than go out on a limb. Basically, if the Roy and Ryu amiibo are being released in a timeframe soon enough that the stores actually have display information already, the time before they're officially revealed should be pretty short. Miles (talk) 17:20, 18 November 2015 (EST)
We aren't claiming release dates though. We're claiming pictures, which are very clear and false amiibo pictures of that style are almost notoriously difficult to make look that clear and that real. And it pretty much counts as 100% confirmed, because this is an official Nintendo product used by stores as a display for amiibo. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Lucas in Woolly World

So, I just got my Lucas amiibo today, and scanned him into Woolly World, and he doesn't give a unique design, rather the generic amiibo design the Pokémon all give, despite the fact the official site lists Lucas as compatible. I suspect Roy and Ryu and the other DLC will probably be the same way unless Woolly World gets an update.

Also, dunno if it's important to reflect in the table, but both versions of ROB unlock their own colour design. SaturnYoshi (talk) 02:22, 3 January 2016 (EST)

Future Releases - Wave 10

So I've been thinking that we might need to start adding more info about release dates for the Cloud, Corrin and Bayonetta amiibo. For instance, I happen to know, at least here in Australia, that these are being released in 2017 (exact date unknown). They were supposed to be released in 2016, but got pushed back for an unknown reason. I don't know if we want to put any of that in or not, so I thought I should bring it up here first. Black Vulpine (talk) 11:05, 6 April 2017 (EDT)

amiibo vs. CPU

Do amiibo really learn from anyone? I pretty sure amiibo are just generic CPU players with increased attack power and lower knockback intake by default. If they really do learn something, then why is it that my Mario amiibo (named Sokudo) constantly uses any other aerial, notably down aerial instead of his forward aerial unless an item happens to be in midair... which is what is "trained" him to do in several one-on-one matches? I may have been better off just making a custom character and assigning it as a CPU and getting a better and slightly fairer result.

About the amiibo page?

The article states that amiibo are compatible with the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Switch. I thought this was funny because there isn't a Nintendo Switch version of Super Smash Bros., so I'm just asking why it's there.--Sneaky Serpent (talk) 16:17, 28 August 2017 (EDT)

Returning Ultimate Veteran amiibos

I believe it’s highly likely that they’ll release amiibos for the cut veterans that’ll return for Ultimate (Young Link, Wolf, Pichu, Squirtle, Ivysaur, Ice Climbers, and Snake), though I’m clueless as to how the amiibos for Squirtle and Ivysaur would work out if they get amiibos, since both of them and Charizard are all tied in with the Pokémon Trainer. SSB4DarkSonicHead.pngSpeed48 16:22, 21 June 2018 (EDT)

Not all veterans are confirmed

Not interested in getting into an edit war over this, but the JP blog citation (which I added) does not confirm that all SSB4-absent veterans will be getting amiibo for Ultimate. It says that some will, and gives Pichu and Ice Climbers as examples. Wolf was also confirmed by another blog post on that same site. That leaves Squirtle, Ivysaur, Young Link, and Snake unconfirmed. Those characters were recently edited into the "future waves" section and inappropriately attached to the aforementioned citation. SuperFalconBros (talk) 11:28, 12 July 2018 (EDT)

Icons in Cross-Compatibility section

While I agree that Ultimate Icons look nicer, wouldn't it be more accurate to use the Smash 4 variants? This is especially an issue with characters like the Zelda characters where they have different designs, and the Charizard and Mii fighter icons also stand out in a weird way. I would highly recommend we change them back to the Smash 4 ones. --PleasePleasePepper (talk) 20:53, 30 September 2018 (EDT)

But then the ones for Chrom, Daisy, Isabelle and Inkling will stick out like a sore thumb as well, plus it's like that because the Mii Fighters share a stock icon with each other in Ultimate, and Charizard has the same situation with the Pokémon Trainer. The ones for OG Bayonetta and Female Corrin can easily be fixed when the game releases and the alternate costume stock icons come flooding in, but until that happens, they otherwise need to be left alone. Additionally, the new designs for the Legend of Zelda characters shouldn't matter at all, since they will use that design when scanning the amiibo into Ultimate. Isabelle Smash Amiibo

The citation that has the Amiibos from Smash series for the newcomers doesn't include Isabelle in the citation. The citation is a Tweet from August after the Smash direct that happened on the 7th of August.. And Isabelle was announced for Ultimate in September.
