The Mummy is a recurring boss in the Castlevania series. Originating as a boss in the first Castlevania game, Mummies have also appeared as standard enemies throughout the series.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The Mummy appears as a background character in Dracula's Castle. He does not seem to interact with the fighters. The Mummy plays a minor role in Simon and Richter's character reveal trailer "Vampire Killer," where he is seen with a second mummy slowly chasing Luigi through a castle hallway, one of the two Mummy's being shot in the face with a plunger by Luigi's Poltergust.
Origin
Mummification is a process (either accidental or deliberate) in which a deceased body is prevented from further decomposing. Egyptian mummies in particular have captured the popular imagination, and have been elements of horror fiction since at least the dawn of the twentieth century. Given the NES-era Castlevania titles' predilection for drawing from classic horror films, it is likely that Mummies' presence in the Castlevania series are a nod to the 1932 film The Mummy starring Boris Karloff as the titular Mummy. Karloff famously also portrayed Frankenstein's monster.
A pair of Mummies appeared as the third boss in the original Castlevania, sharing a lifebar between the two of them, an idea repeated in Dracula's Curse. Starting in Super Castlevania IV, only a single Mummy would serve as a boss, appearing as the boss of the second to last stage.
Although Mummies became common enemies in games following Symphony of the Night, their first appearance as such was in Haunted Castle appearing in Stage 4. The trend continued into both Dracula's Curse and Bloodlines. Template:-
