Sonic (SSBU)

Sonic (ソニック, Sonic) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was confirmed as a playable character on June 12th, 2018.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

Aesthetics

  • Change As with all veterans returning from SSB4, Sonic's model features a more subdued color scheme. His fur is now lightly detailed, similar to other furred characters. His model and textures otherwise appear unchanged.
  • Change Like most of the cast, Sonic is more expressive, as he now grins while dashing and now has an angry look when using up tilt and holding his shield.

Ground Attacks

  • Change Neutral attack's third hit has a slightly different animation.
  • Change Down tilt launches at a more upward angle, improving its combo potential but worsening its edgeguard potential.
  • Change Sonic's previous dash attack, which resembled the Spin Attack from his games, has been changed into a lunge kick.

Special Moves

  • Change Homing Attack now shows a reticle on the opponent right before Sonic is about to strike.
  • Buff Homing Attack deals more damage when charged (12% → 15%).
  • Buff Homing Attack comes out much quicker than the previous titles when the attack button is pressed.
  • Nerf Spin Dash's charge can no longer be canceled by pressing shield. It also now stops upon hitting an opponent's shield, reducing its safety.
  • Change Final Smash has been changed. The player no longer controls Sonic, but he instead dashes extremely quickly from the left and right of the screen for the duration of the move. This new Final Smash covers an entire horizontal line and therefore splits the available playing ground in half, but leaves the rest of the stage wide open.
