The Evolution Championship Series 2009, or simply EVO 2009, was a fighting game tournament held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from July 17th-19th, 2009, at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino. Super Smash Bros. Brawl was held as a side event by the community, featuring a ruleset more widely accepted by the competitive scene compared to when it was an official game at EVO 2008. It was the 8th edition of the EVO tournament series and the last to feature a Smash title in any capacity until EVO 2013, 4 years later.
