Welp

I guess it was convenient that there happened to be an unused icon for Active RfBs, but I meant for you to move Active RfAs to Active Requests for Rights, because it is awkward to have an RfB in an RfA category. HOWEVER, there is too little reward in making RfBs an individual catgeory considering how rarely they appear. Ganonmew, The Thankful Evil Clone 14:05, 7 November 2015 (EST)

That is the general Bcrat icon, used in a userbox template that I know of, my CSS, etc.   INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 14:08, 7 November 2015 (EST)
It could have gone either way really. Since categories can't be moved, I went with the easier option. Toomai Glittershine   The Quiet 09:47, 8 November 2015 (EST)
1. Exactly. 2. Just checked, I didn't see a move button next to the "watch this" button when on a category page.   INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 09:51, 8 November 2015 (EST)

Range block

Our recurring vandal seems to have weaseled around your range block again. Is it worth making it even broader? Miles (talk) 02:16, 11 November 2015 (EST)

To Miles: since you're an admin, can't you do a range block or can only bureaucrats do it? - Drilly the Hedgehog 02:18, 11 November 2015 (EST)
If he could, he would've done it by now. Disaster Flare (talk) 02:19, 11 November 2015 (EST)
Poor 15DollarsWentSouth. - Drilly the Hedgehog 02:20, 11 November 2015 (EST)
Indeed. Disaster Flare (talk) 02:21, 11 November 2015 (EST)
Seriously, though, can't oppenheimer do it? - Drilly the Hedgehog 02:23, 11 November 2015 (EST)

I can. However, I wanted to a) check with the person who had made that block, and b) check that it was desirable. The complication is that we'd essentially have to widen the net of IPs that are blocked, which increases the chances of blocking legitimate users beyond the vandal. That's why I haven't just leaped in to do it myself. Miles (talk) 02:31, 11 November 2015 (EST)

Yes, I must admit the number of range blocks we've made recently disturbs me. There could be hundreds of IPs blocked, preventing legit users from doing anything, and correct me if I am wrong, but talk page privs have been revoked too, right? Serpent   King 03:49, 11 November 2015 (EST)

The current range blocks are /20, which blocks a total of 4096 IPs (2 to the power of [32 minus the number]). This is generally the point at which I personally say "this is good enough"; every increase of the range number by 1 doubles the amount of blocked IPs. The default MediaWiki limit is /16 (65,536 IPs), which basically means "the first two numbers of the IP address are the same, who cares about the second two". I would normally point you to the rangeblock tool and ask "what would your new range be?", but it seems to be down at the moment. Toomai Glittershine   The Aurum 08:22, 11 November 2015 (EST)

Bumping this for your review. We got another instance from a different IP in a nearby block. Miles (talk) 02:24, 12 November 2015 (EST)

If you want to widen the block, I won't object. Toomai Glittershine   The Boss 08:45, 12 November 2015 (EST)

XL

Will eXemplary Logic be able to semi-automate the process of changing copyright tags? I'm just curious.   INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 12:12, 11 November 2015 (EST)

Is this partly because I do the mass editing that clutters up RC? Yeah, but this is the only time I can do it between classes (yes, I have school today). Bot edits would be good, a sure fire way to prevent slip ups, for the start at least, is that all trophies and head icons are always screenshots, because file rips fall under the "vanilla or hacked" statement. Do it one step at a time, so everyone knows what is left. DekZek   12:17, 11 November 2015 (EST)
Partly because your edits are cluttering the RC, partly because I feel as if the job could do with XL.   INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 12:19, 11 November 2015 (EST)

I can answer the question with a question: Is it a given that all of tag Q should turn into tag K? Can we assume that ~95% of the old fair use tag should be converted into the new screenshot tag? Because XL does either all or nothing, no questions asked; if it's not mostly a complete conversion, it'll make more of a mess than it solves. Toomai Glittershine   The Brass 12:30, 11 November 2015 (EST)

So it is not really possible to do so without a mess afterwards. Thanks! (I was just curious anyway.)   INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 12:33, 11 November 2015 (EST)
Can XL do all images in a category, or is it straight up text-replacement in a way that doesn't make that practical? If it could operate that way, it could at least make a dent by letting us speed through stuff like these categories. Miles (talk) 12:37, 11 November 2015 (EST)
Yes, that should be possible. I'll have a go at it. Toomai Glittershine   The Incomprehensible 12:53, 11 November 2015 (EST)
Don't forget to reconfigure XL after the current task is done... (Only if you really need to make XL convert more tags)   INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 14:57, 11 November 2015 (EST)
...Unless you already configured XL to convert more images after the current conversion is done.   INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 15:00, 11 November 2015 (EST)

Heads up: XL's done.   INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 15:42, 11 November 2015 (EST)

Yes I am aware when XL finishes something; I can't keep him running all the time, and if my computer's doing a lot of other stuff (e.g. running a backup) I'm not adding yet another process to the mix. Toomai Glittershine   The Steppin' 16:27, 11 November 2015 (EST)

More stuff XL can do.

While I am looking on the Internet so that I have a rudimentary knowledge of the Final Fantasy series, here is some stuff you can tell XL to do. Template changeovers for Trophies for brawl and Smash 4 (I did Melee yesterday), and all the head icons. That should keep them busy. DekZek   10:10, 13 November 2015 (EST)

Even more stuff for when XL finishes (in about 3-4 hours by the rate they are working at). All the images in Category:Debug menu (SSBM) should take out another 600 or so.DekZek   12:20, 13 November 2015 (EST)
There is still all the different head icons from the various games. Also, what category would Amiibo fall under so I can categorize them? DekZek   17:13, 13 November 2015 (EST)
All of the Category:Extracted images also fall under screenshots. DekZek   10:25, 16 November 2015 (EST)
Same with Category:Debug menu (SSBM) Serpent   King 10:30, 16 November 2015 (EST)
The extracted images could be a problem: XL was the one who uploaded most of them to start with, and he could never figure out how to select a license in the first place, so they're all currently template-less. And you can't replace "nothing" with "something". So something else might need to be done (either I figure out how to make it add something instead of replacing, or someone else will have to do it manually). Toomai Glittershine   The Yellow 10:44, 16 November 2015 (EST)
I can do it. Just give me 1.5 hours until I get out of class. Or .5 hours until I understand the concept they are teaching us. DekZek   10:48, 16 November 2015 (EST)

From what I saw, all of this should be fair use. DekZek   14:27, 16 November 2015 (EST)

More Stuff for license-screenshot. All of the subcategories of Category:Victory poses are screenshots. Melee is the biggest issue as SK already uploaded gifs for those. DekZek   21:27, 23 November 2015 (EST)
...And all of this and its subcategories all fall under the same tag, probably photo with copyrighted content, but I don't know for sure. DekZek   21:32, 23 November 2015 (EST)

Welcome message

Idk, this doesn't really matter, but I thought I'd say it anyway.

I feel like the current welcome message is too form message-y. It's very unspecific and really isn't all that welcoming. Is there any way it could be changed to be a little bit more specific (maybe using {{PAGENAME}} so that we actually greet the user by their username) and natural? ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 12:12, 13 November 2015 (EST)

My explanation

So...my bad. I didn't see the part downward. He was, however, readding stuff on the top page describing his flaws which Miles and I had removed. Ganonmew, The Thankful Evil Clone 18:59, 14 November 2015 (EST)

This might be of your best interest for my RfA.

I made a qualifications page so that way people can get a better idea of how I can better help the wiki if I were to be promoted, and it was at Omega and Serpent's request. Showing it to you just in case of any questions you may have, so here you go. Disaster Flare (talk) 17:21, 16 November 2015 (EST)

Made a new revision for it that clears up some parts they may have given the wrong idea/was poorly worded, also listed better examples in the conflict portion. Thank you for your time so far, and I apologize for reminding you of this. Disaster Flare (talk) 01:18, 18 November 2015 (EST)

Having read SW:SIGN...

Is it withn the rules to implement this? Or are the changes too major/frequent? Drill Blaster Mark 2 (talk) 14:17, 18 November 2015 (EST)

I don't understand your question. If it's "can I change my sig colours every ~3 months", then sure; other people have done similar with no problem. But you'll have to drop the fancy text shadow stuff to get it to fit within 255 characters. Toomai Glittershine   The Keymaster 09:08, 19 November 2015 (EST)
That was the question. I should really be more straightforward... Anyway, I took care of it. Drill Blaster Mark 2 (talk) 10:33, 19 November 2015 (EST)

What happened to NIWA?

I tried accessing it and I found a weird "account suspended" page. What is going on? DekZek   22:36, 18 November 2015 (EST)

Problem

We are getting vandals one right after another here. Relatively sure that it's the same person, different IP. I don't know how to do a range ban, and that's more your thing anyway, so can you look into it? Serpent   King 15:53, 23 November 2015 (EST)

Can't you use an admin tool to check?  Aidan, the Wandering Space Warrior  15:54, 23 November 2015 (EST)
Yeah, such as CheckUser. Use that to check every IP the vandal has used.   INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 15:55, 23 November 2015 (EST)
IPs are from Cali Serpent   King 16:00, 23 November 2015 (EST)

That's a pretty large range to ban... ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 16:22, 23 November 2015 (EST)
Hence my hesitation earlier to widen the range block enough to cover everywhere this guy's coming from. Miles (talk) 16:37, 23 November 2015 (EST)
We'd basically have to block all of California to really stop him. Clearly range blocks aren't effecting him; I'd say just cancel them and we'll deal with him until he gets bored. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 16:42, 23 November 2015 (EST)
Somehow, they might be different vandals who are using copycat attacks. I remembered the Tommy barnes one was from all over the world and I doubt they are all the same person. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is a never lover boy 16:53, 23 November 2015 (EST)
Proxy sites also are a possibility. Point is, we probably can't block this guy in a lasting fashion with range blocks and will probably just have to be vigilant in watching out for this behavior. Miles (talk) 16:55, 23 November 2015 (EST)

Regarding this situation, I believe it may be appropriate to revoke the rollback powers given to this user. Miles (talk) 12:15, 24 November 2015 (EST)

Considering he was using socks to vandalize and make himself look better by RB-ing them, I'd agree. Serpent   King 12:52, 24 November 2015 (EST)

Oh also, I saved the IRC convo me and Nyargle had regarding this user, if you're interested. Has IPs so it was private. Serpent   King 12:59, 24 November 2015 (EST)

What if he has a sibling who somehow made vandal accounts on his computer? ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is made in America 13:00, 24 November 2015 (EST)
He would've said something if that were the case. Disaster Flare   (talk) 13:03, 24 November 2015 (EST)
It's a possibility, buuut I doubt it. It seems to be a violation of the 4th point of this. Serpent   King 13:11, 24 November 2015 (EST)

I'd say yeah, revoking is a good plan. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 13:38, 24 November 2015 (EST)
