The Wii Fit Trainer (Wii Fit トレーナー, Wii Fit Trainer) is a new playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4, revealed during E3 2013 after the initial reveal trailers.[1] She originates from the Wii Fit series of games, and uses "healthy moves" based on fitness exercises. She is a fast and agile character.

On October 31, 2013 (the release date for the trial version of Wii Fit U), a male version of Wii Fit Trainer was shown[2], which was later confirmed in the April 8th, 2014 Super Smash Bros. Direct to be an alternate costume of the Wii Fit Trainer. There are no gameplay differences between the two, with both of them even being the same size.

The trainers are voiced by Hitomi Hirose and Tomoyuki Higuchi in Japanese, while they are voiced by October Moore and Steve Heinke in English.

Attributes

As expected from her origin game, Wii Fit Trainer's physical attacks all involve her posing in various Yoga poses that appear in Wii Fit. Due to this, Wii Fit Trainer's moveset is perhaps the most confusing of all close range fighters if one does not use her frequently, though her strength comes from some of the unusual hitboxes in her attacks.

With a decently quick dash and high jump height along with being a middleweight, Wii Fit Trainer has no trouble recovering, especially with her Super Hoop which can be button mashed for a great boost in horizontal height. Her crouch hugs low to the ground, similar to Snake (SSBB), allowing her to completely avoid many projectiles and even some attacks, allowing her to follow up with her damaging down tilt. Header, although tricky to use in battle, stalls Wii Fit Trainer in the air, gives her some added horizontal height and can force an opponent to shield while edgeguarding, further enhancing her recovery. It can also be cancelled at close range to force opponents to shield, allowing some followups. Sun Salutation is a spammable projectile uncharged and deals good damage and knockback fully charged, and as it heals 1% when shot at full charge and charges at the speed of Lucario (SSB4)'s Aura Sphere, makes it a reliable projectile for dealing damage or KOing an opponent at high percentages. Deep Breathing, when fresh, can be done during a safe period or even offstage while recovering to heal 3% and increase Wii Fit Trainer's chances of taking an opponent's stock if they are at high percentages. Getting a KO, however, is often difficult for Wii Fit Trainer against some opponents due to her attack's unusual hitbox placements.

Unlike most fighters who have an attack that hits in both directions fixed to their down smash, many of Wii Fit Trainer's attacks have hitbox placements in both directions. Alongside her already powerful semi-spiking down smash, Wii Fit Trainer's jab, forward tilt, forward smash and forward aerial all have a separate hitbox behind Wii Fit Trainer that knocks the opponent in completely different directions. Her jab's second hitbox knocks opponents away from her, useful for countering against rolling players, while her forward tilt has a hitbox behind and above her which knocks grounded and airborne foes upwards with good knockback. Her forward smash hits in both directions, also useful to counter rolls, while her forward aerial is a meteor smash if the opponent connects with her legs. Wii Fit Trainer also has significantly more meteor smashes than most of the cast if her unusual hitboxes are counted, the aforementioned forward air being one, her down aerial being a more standard and reliable meteor smash, and her Header's headbutt also being able to meteor smash. However, because of their hitbox placements, it is significantly more difficult to connect these attacks, though a skilled player can use these options unexpectedly and with good results.

Alongside these meteor smashes, most of Wii Fit Trainer's attacks have unusual hitbox placements, some giving her great followup options but making it difficult to hit smaller characters. Her jab is probably one of the most useful attacks in her arsenal, due to it burying any opponents that are hit by the final hit whilst on the ground. This leaves them completely vulnerable to followups, including her forward and down smash which are usually difficult to land due to their starting and ending lag, or any aerial if the opponent button mashes their way out of the bury and jump into the air. Heavy characters are especially vulnerable to the bury due to their heavy weight and their larger hurtboxes. Unfortunately, due to her forward smash's hitbox only hitting opponents at the same level as her arm, small characters such as Kirby (SSB4) cannot be hit by her forward smash while buried, sometimes even while moving around, making the only options her down tilt, forward tilt or down smash, all which do not have as much KO potential as her forward smash. Her up smash and up tilt, though having good vertical range for her size, have no horizontal hitboxes at all, making their usefulness extremely scarce unless against larger opponents such as Donkey Kong (SSB4). Her aerials all have little ending lag, making Wii Fit Trainer a decent air fighter, some attacks comboing well into each other such as her neutral air and forward air which can be done twice against an opponent in a single short hop at low percentages, while others having KO potential such as her up aerial and back aerial in the first few frames. Her grab game is also decent if her opponent is at low percentages, many of her throws being able to combo into at least one aerial. However, Wii Fit Trainer's suffers from lackluster reach, her grab and many of her attacks keeping her stationary without moving, making it difficult to hit moving opponents without prediction. This, along with many of Wii Fit Trainer's most powerful attacks only KOing near 100% and being unable to hit under her, makes matchups against small characters not in her favour.

In essence, Wii Fit Trainer is a fighter with an excellent projectile and recovery, has many moves that can disrupt rolls and many tricks up her sleeve due to her many double hitbox attacks and can use them easily against bigger characters, but suffers with KOs and following up with her useful jab bury especially against small characters because of her low reach and many awkwardly positioned hitboxes in her attacks.

Wii Fit Trainer's regular trophy can be obtained by completing Classic Mode with her and her alternative trophy can be obtained by completing All-Star mode with her.

Wii Fit Trainer
NA: The female trainer who helps you in the Wii Fit series. She favors a fighting style composed of yoga poses. This makes her a capable close-quarters fighter, but she has ranged attacks as well. She also has a move called Deep Breathing, which can heal you and increase attack power if timed right.
PAL: You can choose one of two Trainers to help whip you into shape - or better yet, whip everyone else into shape! Use all sorts of yoga poses and exercises to get fit and flexible, and inflict serious damage on the other fighters in the process! Or try some deep-breathing drills to increase power and defence. It's all good!
Wii Fit Trainer (Alt.)
The male trainer from the Wii Fit series, his neutral special Sun Salutation charges up a ball of light that, when launched, will heal him a bit. His Jackknife pose is excellent for toning the abdominal muscles, but in Smash Bros. the Wii Fit Trainer uses it as an air attack. Timed right, the attack can hit twice!

  • The Wii Fit Trainer is the only character who appears on either boxarts that uses their standard artwork. All other characters that appear use new poses.
  • The Wii Fit Trainer is the only newcomer to have her splash art introduction picture show up after footage of her in her reveal.
  • The Wii Fit Trainer is the only character to speak full sentences when using her smash attacks. Additionally, she's the only character to have more than one voice clip when using smashes (she can say up to three sentences for each attack).
