Captain Falcon (SSB4)

Captain Falcon was confirmed on July 14, 2014 to be a returning character for Super Smash Bros. 4, the same date that F-Zero X was released for the Nintendo 64 in Japan in 1998. He was revealed in a newcomer trailer for Lucina and Robin. His appearance has been upgraded since his last appearance.

Changes from Brawl

Being considered one of the worst characters in Brawl, Captain Falcon has been buffed up, but not without a few nerfs.

  •   Falcon Punch now moves Captain Falcon a fair distance forwards, improving the move's range.
  •   Raptor Boost has been buffed again. It deals more damage, covers more range, and has gained more KO power.
  •   Neutral attack 3 has been strengthened.
  •   Back throw has received more KO power. It also deals 1% more damage.
  •   Falcon Dive has a much faster startup, and covers more distance while losing less momentum.
  •   Forward aerial (Knee Smash) is buffed.
  •   Down throw deals slightly less damage.
  •   Up tilt sends opponents at a higher trajectory, weakening its use as a KO move but enhancing its combo utility.
  •   Down tilt sends opponents at a more horizontal trajectory, weakening its use as a combo move but allowing it to set up edgeguards earlier.
  •   Falcon Dive has more intense visual effects.

Moveset

Ground attacks

Normal

  • Neutral attack - Captain Falcon punches twice then knees the opponent, which is followed by a series of punches.
  • Dash attack - Captain Falcon rams a shoulder into the opponent.
  • Forward tilt - Captain Falcon does a roundhouse kick.
  • Up tilt - Captain Falcon does an Axe kick with good horizontal knockback.
  • Down tilt - Captain Falcon does a sweep kick with horizontal knockback.

Smash Attacks

  • Forward smash - Captain Falcon rears back and jabs an elbow forward, making a fire effect on contact.
  • Up smash - Captain Falcon kicks into the air twice.
  • Down smash - Captain Falcon quickly kicks in front of him and then behind him.

Aerial attacks

Grab and throws

  • Pummel - Captain Falcon knees the opponent.
  • Forward throw - Captain Falcon punches the enemy, sending them forward.
  • Back throw - Captain Falcon puts the enemy behind him and kicks.
  • Up throw - Captain Falcon holds the enemy up and punches them upward with his left hand.
  • Down throw - Captain Falcon flips opponent and throws them on the ground.

Special Moves

In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants, and all of Captain Falcon's have been seen. These are Captain Falcon's special moves:

Special Move Basic Custom 1 Custom 2
Neutral Special Falcon Punch Dashing Falcon Punch Mega Falcon Punch
Side Special Raptor Boost Heavy Raptor Boost Pullback Raptor Boost
Up Special Falcon Dive Falcon Upper Burst Falcon Dive
Down Special Falcon Kick Falcon Kick Fury Lightning Falcon Kick
Final Smash Blue Falcon - -

Final Smash

  • Blue Falcon - Captain Falcon calls in the Blue Falcon, which crashes through the stage in front of Captain Falcon. Whoever it hits when it first appears will be hit by the rest of the move. Characters who are not hit will stay in place until the end of the smash. A short cutscene appears, and the opponents are run over and sent flying, doing about 40% damage if every part of the attack hits and has high knockback. Like certain other Final Smashes, if no one is hit when the Blue Falcon appears, then the attack fails.

Taunts

  • Faces the camera, salutes and exclaims "Show me your moves!".
  • Charges himself up with fire, similar to a Falcon Punch.
  • Holds out his hand and challenges, "Come on!".

On-Screen Appearance

The Blue Falcon spins to a stop, Captain Falcon jumps out, and then Blue Falcon speeds off.
