Keep: This page is very useful. Would you like to see someone put up a page, say, about Toad, how he is a "Secret Character", and how to unlock him? Then some sensible person would come along, delete the page or change it to say he was a rumor in Melee, and he is NOT in the game. An edit war would soon ensue. Article name
I propose moving this back to List of rumors because much of the content focuses on rumors which turn out to be false. Sonic being playable in Melee is a rumor, not a fact because he is not playable in Melee. Unlocking Master Hand and Metal Mario without hacking in SSB is also untrue. For similar reasons, this article should also not be named List of little known secrets. Mousehunter321 (talk · contributions) 20:22, 2 April 2012 (EDT)

US/UK spelling rule
How does it go? I made an edit earlier changing 'rumour' to 'rumor', but then I came to realize that such an shuns the editor who placed the information there to begin with and reverted myself. There are Wikipedia articles that have US and UK spelling variants co-exist (that is relevant since we, like most wikis, follow Wikipedia as an example in some ways), so should it be a general rule for them to be allowed on the same article? Or should only one variant of the word be used throughout the entire article? Discuss. Blue Ninjakoopa(Talk) 14:25, 28 May 2012 (EDT)

Just want to point out, perhaps the Tweet count being stuck at 8,807 is the result of lagging in the Twitter database. Not saying this proves the rumor true or anything. --RoyboyX Talk 16:29, 30 May 2012 (EDT)

Re Monsieur Crow
First off, welcome back. Second, I suggest we have Lucina, Falco, Pac-Man and Palutena share a section, so like Leaked(?) Characters. RoyboyX Talk 18:29, 8 February 2014 (EST)
- I see you, RoyboyX.
- My main concern with the article isn't that the article is becoming disorganised (on the contrary, I'd argue that a game-by-game model is probably the neatest we can accomplish), but rather, that the article is going to become too SSB4-heavy; the section already contains nine different rumours while the game is still in development, whereas in the eight years since Brawl's announcement, we also have nine. In the coming months, there's obviously going to be even more rumours, making things only more chaotic in the section.
- I'm thinking that we might have to find a way to distinguish between "notable" and "non-notable" rumours, but I can't think of a way to do so that would prevent this article from either shrinking or doing nothing. I considered splitting this article much like our old Beta elements article, but the 64 and Melee sections would have too little to stand on their own in that regard.
- That's all.

Not confirming anything 100% but according to IMDb, a list of voice actors have been unveiled. Such as Jim Walker as Fox, Antony Del Rio (Kid Icarus: Uprising) as Pit, Jessica Martin as Samus Aran, etc. Should we confirm this or something among those lines?

Regarding a rumor proven true kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
This is directed to Monsieur Crow, and only Monsieur Crow. You know that Lucas and Ness thing? Well, that was actually not very wide-spread, and then proven true. I think that this "rumor" isn't worth enough to mention here. I think it would make more sense to, instead, mention this on Ness' Melee page and Lucas' character page. 75.141.44.196 16:07, 14 March 2014 (EDT)
- If memory serves, this guy worked on the bulk of that section, with me only making a few grammatical edits (if any at all). That said, I believe the rumour began its spread with the reveal of Lucas in Brawl, and it has seen some revival due to speculation over SSB4's unrevealed roster, thus making this a notable rumour. Also, the fact that the rumour was eventually proven true doesn't change the fact that it started as a rumour.
Black Mage
There's a rumor going around that a Black Mage screenshot has been leaked. It is a fake to me. Here's where the rumor began. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiIC6FDy2fU. Also, I've found some "leaked" screenshots about Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles and Mewtwo. --Mr.Santana Lopez (talk) 09:50, 18 March 2014 (EDT)
- While it is interesting to see the variety of faked character reveal images, none of your aforementioned rumours have significant enough spread to warrant mentioning on this article. In general, we want to see some significant spread for rumours (i.e. appearances in notable newssites, significant discussion on forums like SWF, etc.) before they're placed on the page; alternatively, they could have some form of "uniqueness" that helps them be diffrentiated from other rumours (such as the Lucina hoax, which showed that Brawl hacks can be used to manufacture rumours).
- That's all.
"E-Reader Leak"
Apparently someone "leaked" a bonus disc along with E-Reader cards that were supposed to unlock new characters. These cards were "meant to appear" at some sort of con Nintendo was going to. The character that was "unlocked" was Leon Kennedy. However, some SmashBoards users appear to have debunked it, but this isn't completely understood. Should this be in the main article or should we wait a little longer and see what happens? Link: http://smashboards.com/threads/super-smash-bros-4-wii-u-3ds-topic-2-0.347937/page-248 24.99.96.92 08:16, 26 March 2014 (EDT)
- While this is an interesting rumor, it doesn't seem to have any notable spread associated with it, especially since the discussion about it seems to peter out at the end of the page it's posted on.
- If it starts making it rounds on other sites like AiB or is even covered by gaming websites, however, those could be grounds to include it on the article.

This is a thing I saw on a website. http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/20014232/ It calls the games Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and shows us Kraid's Lair as a theme. Notable enough? Bug Man Stan (talk) 13:17, 15 April 2014 (EDT)
- It ain't notable. Fan remixes for stage music is absurdly common, so it becomes absurdly difficult to tell if it's a legit leak or not. In addition, leaking a musical piece for SSB4 is nowhere near notable enough to warrant a page on the Wiki because we really aren't going to learn much from Nintendo's musical choice. Leaked Roster Photo
There is a leaked roster photo and while I don't believe it, it does fit the criteria of gaining a lot of attention. Here is one of MANY links http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/21473/article/rumor-super-smash-bros-4-roster-revealed/. --Mr.Santana Lopez (talk) 16:56, 22 April 2014 (EDT)
There was a post (where I can't find the link) about that Chrom from Fire Emblem: Awakening, Palutena from Kid Icarus, Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles, Choir Boys from Rhythm Beat, and Pac Man are going to be in the game. This is from the same source (who I've surprised wasn't mentioned on this page already) that leaked that the E3 reveals would be Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Animal Crossing Villager, Pac Man, Little Mac, and Mii (this should be called the 4 of 6 rumor if it will decide to be added). This leak has been getting a lot of attention. --Mr.Santana Lopez (talk) 16:56, 22 April 2014 (EDT)
- That character select screen has already been seen and instantly debunked when posted, and we already have a section covering the ubiquitous phony character select screens. It's nothing special
- And we have the E3 leak on the page, as well as the followup "leak". Did you not read the whole page? Omega Tyrant 16:59, 22 April 2014 (EDT)
- We do? The last time Ii recalled, it was the whole scenario with that "Brawl Anniversary" stuff. Nothing on that spot on E3 prediction Mr.Santana Lopez (talk) 17:01, 22 April 2014 (EDT)
- Well, that screenshot is very convincing. The unconfirmed characters have new artwork that has never been seen before. Snake who was the one I find the most unlikely to return isn't there. The all the confirmed characters, including the most recent ones use the Smash 4 artwork. However, Chrom is the only unconfirmed newcomer on this roster. While Sakurai stated there will be three third-party characters, only two are there: Mega Man and Sonic. Snake, Lucas, Ike, Wolf, Pokémon Trainer, Squirtle, Ivysaur and R.O.B. were cut. Previously rumored newcomers like Pac-Man and Palutena isn't on here, and the Newcomer I want the most, Tails, didn't make it either. However, there is still a chance that it could be fake. Sakurai didn't confirm everyone yet. And he stated he had problems with the Ice Climbers on the 3DS. SeanWheeler (talk) 10:23, 23 April 2014 (EDT)
- Instant fake, Wario's image is his dash turn from Brawl, and I know I've seen that Ganondorf from somewhere. I don't think this is any more notable than any other fake character screen. Toomai Glittershine The Cloronic 10:27, 23 April 2014 (EDT)
- Additionally, the Ness image is that already-provened-faked "leaked art" reversed, not to mention the art of the yet-to-be-revealed characters is distinctly worse than the actual character art (and of course, there's no way Smash 4 would have the same amount of characters Brawl had and Chrom would be the only newcomer we haven't seen yet). Omega Tyrant 10:34, 23 April 2014 (EDT)
- Well, I still have my fingers crossed for Tails. Though I have a good idea of how Pac-Man's series symbol would look. Maybe despite stating only three third-party characters, he might add Tails as a bonus for Sonic and still have Pac-Man? Argh, this isn't the place to speculate! But I guess you're right. Why would Chrom be the only newcomer? Why cut Wolf? They couldn't have Krystal? What about Palutena? She was in a very convincing leak and Sakurai posted a couple of Kid Icarus screenshots after the leak, yet she is not in the roster. There are some characters I'd want and they're not in the roster. SeanWheeler (talk) 10:55, 23 April 2014 (EDT)
- Take a look at SW:TALK, Wheeler. Anyway, the biggest red flag for this fake is the use of Ganondorf's official Twilight Princess artwork instead of even trying to use "new" art. Miles (talk) 11:27, 23 April 2014 (EDT)
- Just to clarify, Chrom's artwork in the leak is concept art from Awakening, and Ganondorf's is just his render from Twilight Princess (i.e., the one where he's standing upright, hands on the hilt of his sword, tip touching the ground). That said, Ness' artwork isn't the fake one (at least, if we're talking about the same artwork; his arms are in different positions that aren't the result of simply reversing the image), but Chrom's and Ganon's alone are enough to discredit the image. That, and this would be the first Smash game ever not to have the character select portraits zoomed in on the characters' faces. MarioGalaxyTalk 11:31, 23 April 2014 (EDT)

Nester prank
What do others here think of it regarding its notability as a "rumor"? Omega Tyrant 20:40, 5 May 2014 (EDT)
- Farcical response: It's notable because absolutely no one fell for it. You have to try for that to happen.
- Real response: I see no reason why it would be considered notable. It offers nothing new over the previous rumors; arguably the only notable part is that it featured a URL similar to the official site's, and even then, that is already technically covered under the Wii Want More rumor.
- Yes, while pretty much no one fell for this, I do think that it is notable enough to put here. Here are my reasons:
- 1. It was covered by tons of websites. There were dozens of famous gaming sites that had an article on this.
- I absolutely agree with Chuck. If it's so widespread, then it makes so much sense to mention it here! I will spray bugs lol (talk) 14:16, 6 May 2014 (EDT)
- It may be true that the joke did appear on multiple sites, but effectively none of them made speculation about whether or not it was real. Examples: "Nester Prank Fools Smash Fans a Day Before April Fools"; "Nester Joins Super Smash Bros. Roster (April Fools' Day); "Nester shows up on Smash Bros. website as April Fool's joke, screen shots included". For comparison, the "Namco Employee" rumor had serious discussion over whether or not it was legitimate. Examples: "Super Smash Bros. 4: Rumors and Speculation"; "“Namco Worker” Shares Smash 4 Rumors: Ghirahim and Ridley Playable, Nintendo Direct on January 31"; "Wii U Super Smash Bros. 4 Rumors, Spoilers: Game To Be Previewed Jan. 31? New Characters Include King K. Rool, Ridley, Little Mac, Takamaru?". In this case, coverage means nothing; if everyone knows of it as a joke, is it really a rumor, let alone a notable one?
- The point about the page looking similar to the official site is also something that has already been done before. The Falco rumor featured faked images of the official site, and earlier still in Brawl, the downloadable content rumor featured a faked newspost that appeared to be from an official Nintendo site.
- The Falco rumor may have had screenshots that looked like the website, but the Nester rumor had a fully functional website designed to look like the official one. And while practically every news site that featured it knew it was fake, it still was extremely widespread. ChuckNorris 15:56, 6 May 2014 (EDT)
Alleged outlines in certain trailers
So people decided to try and point out certain characters in other characters' reveal trailers;Bowser, Jr in Mega Man's reveal trailer, and Pac-Man/Klonoa in Greninja's trailer. What was this all about? Dreamcastboy99filmz (talk) 21:02, 8 May 2014 (EDT)
Roster Rumors?
I'm not adding this, because I'm not sure what the criteria is for adding rumors, and how we define them as "notable", but I would consider perhaps adding this to the list: http://www.gamnesia.com/news/rumor-smash-bros.-character-select-screen-leaked-54-playable-characters#ad-image-0 -- (The preceding signed comment was made by Ghabulous Ghoti) 22:32, 24 May 2014 (EDT)
- The main criterion for rumour notability is how much it spreads around the internet, so unless/until it starts getting more coverage it should be left out. Toomai Glittershine The Undirigible 22:37, 24 May 2014 (EDT)
- "Leaked" character select screens are so ubiquitous, that an individual one is not really notable itself (and we already cover them in general in the initial paragraphs). I'll give credit that this one is more legitimate looking, though the lack of Ike makes it look like just another phony. Omega Tyrant 22:41, 24 May 2014 (EDT)

Klonoa "Leak"
Is this worth any merit of mentioning? http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/633202-super-smash-bros-for-wii-u/69400428 I'm too tired to go see if it's already debunked, or a fake or something, so sorry if I'm posting old news. Laikue (talk) 01:14, 6 July 2014 (EDT)
- Proven false by OP. No significant spread outside of GameFAQs either.
Nester Leak
As some of you may recall, the SmashWiki got hacked on April 1st just this year. Along with that, there was a link to a fake character reveal, the reveal being of Nester, the old Nintendo Power mascot (if you give me some time, I can find it). I had put up a little section on this page about the leak, but it got taken down. I don't get why a plain old theory is allowed (see the Trophy Quizzes section in the actual article), but not an actual leak. I am not meaning to sound like a dick here, but I'm just trying to figure out something, and hopefully let others know about the AFD Nester leak. The question is, is this a good idea? If it is not (and you give me a good enough reason why), then hopefully, I will understand. Again, not trying to sound/act like a dick here. Aidanzapunk (talk) 13:39, 9 July 2014 (EDT)
- Compare the post-April-Fools notoriety of that particular joke with the Sonic and Tails one - it's much weaker, mostly because it was an obvious fake. I doubt it'll become notable enough in future to be included on this page. Toomai Glittershine The Resolute 13:45, 9 July 2014 (EDT)
Nester?
Should the Nester april fools joke be used? I don't remember much about it, but... http://www.smashbros.us/us/characters/nester.html Nutta Butta (talk) 17:53, 12 July 2014 (EDT)
- See the section above. It was recognized as a joke instantly by a lot of people, and lacked an impact. MegaTron1XD 18:13, 12 July 2014 (EDT)
- That argument is pretty ridiculous. It's not just SmashWiki, as I saw it on multiple websites the day before April Fools. I'll see if I can find the posts about it. Nutta Butta (talk) 18:17, 12 July 2014 (EDT)
- While it was very quickly recognized as a gag, it was indeed very widespread (even if just as being ridiculous). I believe it deserves a mention somewhere. Nutta Butta (talk) 18:22, 12 July 2014 (EDT)
- Obvious April Fools' pranks do not really qualify as "rumour"s. The Sonic/Tails rumour in Melee is the exception, not because it wasn't obvious, but because it lasted in the public consciousness beyond its initial apperance. I seem to recall people talking about the Sonic/Tails rumour for months and even years after the fact, while I don't see the Nester thing anywhere nowadays. It was a flash in the pan. Gematsu Disproven
Should I change it to have "ended" or something to that effect? Because whether or not the first leak was true, the second (Chrom), third (roster finalization), and fourth (Shulk revealed today) were all confirmed as false. Putting it as "ended" also includes that the first leak has been completely confirmed as false. Until he sends another email, all of the leaks have been resolved- #1 is right, #2-4 are wrong. ...a new Nutta is approaching... 16:31, 14 July 2014 (EDT)
- I specifically went for the neutral phrasing that at least the later emails are inaccurate/false due to Chrom's deconfirmation. It's unclear if any were accurate at this time, so I've left it open-ended. I personally believe it was a set of lucky guesses which finally missed, but it's subjective for now. Miles (talk) 16:35, 14 July 2014 (EDT)
