The Vault (コレクション, Collection) is a menu that appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. 4, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and features many of the collection and record-keeping elements of the games. In Smash 4, the Vault itself is a part of the Games & More sub-menu, while in both Brawl and Ultimate, it is accessible directly from the main menu. The Vault in Brawl is depicted as a locked box with a green background. As of Smash 4, the Vault has effectively merged the function of Data sub-menu from Smash 64, Melee and Brawl.
FeaturesEdit
Album (Brawl, 3DS, Wii U & Ultimate)Edit
This shows photos that the player has taken using the camera, be it from the Subspace Emissary, multiplayer mode, or another place in the game. In SSB4, snapshots can also be moved to player-created albums and commented upon. Ultimate does not have a dedicated in-game album, and instead screenshots are saved on the system album.
Challenges (Brawl, 3DS, Wii U & Ultimate)Edit
Challenges are a plethora of achievements that can be accomplished in order to unlock prizes. These include Stages, Trophies, Stickers, CDs, Masterpieces, and edit parts for Stage Builder. Challenges return in both versions of SSB4 (though it is a top-level menu item in both versions rather than part of the Vault menu), with the 3DS version featuring challenges intended to be easier to complete compared to the Wii U version. In Ultimate, challenges are split into eight gameplay categories, those being Smash, Adventure, Spirit Board, Spirits, Classic Mode, Games & More, Online, and Other.
Chronicle (Brawl only)Edit
The Chronicle lists notable Nintendo titles on Nintendo consoles, including, but not limited to, the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Virtual Boy, and Wii titles before Brawl's release.
Masterpieces (Brawl and Wii U only)Edit
This mode allows demos of games from the Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Nintendo Entertainment System, as well the Nintendo 64 in Brawl only and the Game Boy in Smash Wii U only, to be played. This mode was made to show the past adventures of the fighters. This feature is absent from the 3DS version of SSB4.
Movies (Brawl, Wii U, and Ultimate)Edit
This modes allows the player to see the opening movie, the How to Play video, reveal trailers (in Brawl and Smash 4 only), The Subspace Emissary cutscenes (Brawl only), and in Ultimate, the World of Light cutscenes. In Brawl this feature was in the Data sub-menu, but has been moved to the Vault starting with Smash 4.
Records (Brawl, 3DS, Wii U, and Ultimate)Edit
Another feature moved from the Data menu to the Vault in the transition from Brawl to Smash 4, this shows the player to view information about various aspects of certain characters, such as total KOs and the total time that they were used, as well as history of Milestones the player received.
Replays (Brawl, 3DS, Wii U & Ultimate)Edit
This shows videos that the player has taken using the camera. In Brawl and Smash 4, They can be taken in multiplayer mode or in Stadium modes except for Boss Battles, and can only be less than 3 minutes long. In Ultimate replays can be converted to video files, and saved on an SD card.
Shop (Ultimate)Edit
This allows the player to buy Spirits, Mii Fighter costumes, Music and others, by spending Coins. It is similar in function to Trophy Shop from Smash 4.
Sounds (Brawl, 3DS, Wii U, and Ultimate)Edit
This menu allows the player to listen to music tracks, character voices, sound effects (Brawl only) in the game, or create the playlist (Smash 4 and Ultimate). In Ultimate, this menu also contains the My Music as well. As with Movies and Records, this feature was in the Data sub-menu in Brawl, but has been moved to the Vault starting with Smash 4.
Stage Builder (Brawl, Wii U, and Ultimate)Edit
This allows the player to develop new stages as well choose their music, size, and background. This feature is not present in the 3DS version of SSB4. It is present in the Wii U version, as well as in Ultimate but isn't found in the Vault anymore; instead, it is its own section in the Games & More sub-menu.
Tips (3DS, Wii U & Ultimate)Edit
A new feature in SSB4 that gives helpful hints to the player about the various characters, items, stages, and modes within the game. Tips return in Ultimate, and can be selected based on topic.
Trophies and stickers (Brawl, 3DS & Wii U)Edit
Shows every trophy or sticker the player has collected, and in Brawl, allows the player to apply stickers for use in the SSE. It also allows the player to play a game to obtain more trophies (and in Brawl, stickers) by using coins. In Brawl, said game is the Coin Launcher, while in SSB4, it is the Trophy Rush.
