Heading for Battle! (頭に注目！ かぶりものトーナメン, Pay attention to your head! Headgear Tournament), known as Ahead of the Game in PAL regions, was an Event Tourney with a theme of headwear. It ran from 6 a.m. on November 27, 2020 to 6 a.m. on November 30, 2020 (UTC). During the event, only certain characters could be chosen.

Trivia
- While the Pokémon Trainer wears a hat, the Pokémon do not, making them the only fighters in this tourney not to wear any headwear.
- The tourney seems to be limited to headwear that completely covers the head; because of this, several fighters with headwear are not included. This includes Peach, Daisy, Dr. Mario, Marth, Lucina, Ganondorf, Roy, Pit, Dark Pit, Snake, Ike, Rosalina & Luma, Palutena, Ryu, Simon, Richter, and King K. Rool.
- Similarly, only characters who wear headgear in all of their alternate costumes are available. Link, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Pichu, Little Mac, Inkling, Hero, and Steve all have alternate costumes with headwear, but are excluded from the tourney.
