Lucario (ルカリオ, Lucario) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It was confirmed as a playable character on June 12th, 2018. Sean Schemmel reprises his role as Lucario in the English version of the game through reused voice clips from Smash 4.
Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4
Aesthetics
- Lucario's model features a more subdued color scheme. Its fur is more detailed, similar to Brawl.
- Aura is now cyan in color instead of indigo, and its visual effects are smoother. At high aura, the flames produced are more vibrant and intense, leaving behind a trail as Lucario moves.
Attributes
- Like all characters, Lucario's jumpsquat animation now takes three frames to complete.
- Lucario's Aura is weaker in terms of racking up damage, however, his moves are stronger with little to no aura.
Ground attacks
- Forward tilt has a new animation, with Lucario leaning back before the palm thrust.
- Forward smash has longer range.
- Forward smash has more vibrant aura effects.
Aerial Attacks
- Neutral aerial now hits twice instead of one, no matter which side Lucario hits the opponent from. Additionally, Lucario is able to drag opponents with the attack, making it more likely for follow ups.
- Forward aerial has reduced landing lag.
- Back aerial deals less damage and knockback to opponents, but it has less ending and startup lag, and has a bigger hitbox.
- Up aerial has an altered animation, with Lucario backflipping following the initial kick.
- Up aerial has increased ending lag.
- Down aerial has bigger hitboxes.
- Down aerial stalls a bit less in the air.
Special Moves
- Aura Sphere has less endlag and can now be jump-canceled.
- Aura Sphere travels slower.
- Aura Sphere is now visually closer to how it appears in the anime and games. It has an "energy absorption" visual effect when charging and no longer emits a trail of smoke when launched.
- Force Palm has increased grab range at point blank range, making it more likely to grab opponents with the attack.
- Extreme Speed has less ending lag and landing lag.
- Double Team's counterattack activates faster, making the attack harder to avoid.
- Double Team has less active frames.
- Lucario's Final Smash has been reverted to Aura Storm, but it now transforms into Mega Lucario.
Role in World of Light
Lucario was among the fighters summoned to the cliffside to fight against the army of Master Hands.
Lucario was present when Galeem unleashed its beams of light. Lucario dodged a beam of light using Double Team, but another beam of light hit it a moment later, vaporizing it and transforming it into a spirit along with the rest of the fighters, excluding Kirby.

Trivia
- Lucario and Charizard are the only characters to have had their Final Smash change between games only to have it revert back to the previous Final Smash. In Lucario's case, it had Aura Storm in Brawl, changed to Mega Lucario in Smash 4, and then reverted back to Aura Storm in Ultimate.
