Super Smash Bros. series
Yoshi, a starter charater in all three Super Smash Bros. games premeired in this game. Also, the stage Yoshi's Island was based on the levels of this game. In addition, the music to Yoshi's Island is a remix of Donut Plains' main level theme.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Yoshi's Final Smash, Super Dragon, is based on powers Yoshi could obtain in Super Mario World, depending on what color Koopa shells Yoshi eats.
- Red Koopa Shells have Yoshi spit out fire.
- Blue Koopa Shells allow Yoshi to fly.
- Yellow Koopa Shells allow Yoshi to stomp hard enough to make the ground shake (this ability has yet to be seen in Brawl)
- Green Koopa Shells do not do anything.
Also, the "Ending" and "Title" music will be used in Delfino Plaza.
There is also Trophy of Mario riding Yoshi in Melee that was distributed at certain Nintendo events.
