Announced at E3 2001, ReDeads are common enemies that are found in Melee.

Character description

The ReDeads in Melee take the appearance of a zombie and is also based on the Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask version of the ReDead. ReDeads come into two different colors: light brown and dark brown. The light brown ReDeads are only found in the Underground Maze while the dark brown ReDeads appear out of container items. ReDeads are tall in height, but can still attack smaller characters.

History

ReDeads first debuted in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. They were also found in Hyrule Castle Town when Adult Link woke up from his seven year slumber. The whole town was in shackles and the surrounded by ReDeads. According to the ReDead trophy, the ReDeads were evil aminations created by Ganondorf and were not actually dead people. ReDeads would attack Link by letting out a shriek that will impede Link's movement. The ReDeads method of attacking is by jumping on the victim's back to suck the life out of the victim. The ReDeads that appear in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask are similar to the ones in Ocarina of Time except that they will be harmless if Link wears the Gibdo Mask.

ReDeads would appear again in the The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The ReDeads in Wind Waker pick up a new look but still function to same as the previous ReDeads in the past Zelda games. The ReDeads will appear once again in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The Twilight Princess ReDead is called a ReDead Knight. The ReDead Knight appears in areas like Arbiter's Grounds and Cave of Ordeals. The ReDead Knight lets out a high shriek to paralyze it's victims momentarily and slash at them with their sword. ReDeads do not take a significant role in Super Smash Brothers Brawl, as they only appear as stickers.

Role

ReDeads appear in the Underground Maze and come out of crates and barrels in Melee. ReDeads attack other characters by limping towards them. Once the ReDead identifies it's victim, it will charge at it's victim. They will latch around the victim's neck and start to bite them. The amount of damage the ReDead does to it's victim depends on the difficulty. The higher the difficulty the more damage the ReDead creates. The amount of damage the ReDead gives a character can be reduced if the ReDead is shaken off quickly. ReDead will take a few hits to KO. After a few attacks, the ReDead will fall down on the ground. Characters can attack fallen ReDeads and kill them. Fallen ReDeads will stand back up after a few moments and attack. ReDeads can harm metal characters when they are charging at them. ReDeads take more damage to KO then any other type of common enemy.

The ReDeads in the Underground Maze are found usually in the main area with all the broken floating platforms. Usually there are about 1-2 ReDead per platform. The ReDeads on the platforms will usually fall down when they attack. ReDeads can also be found in certain areas of the maze. They are usually found in a pact of 3-4 ReDeads. Earlier trailers of Melee showed different characters fighting ReDeads on the Temple stage. The ReDeads that come out of container items are harder to spot because they are darker than the ReDeads that appear in the Underground Maze. The appearance of a ReDead out of a container is rare. ReDeads can be summoned anytime when an Action Replay is used. They are one of the four common enemies that can be used any stage. ReDeads will sometimes carry a trophy when they are KO. For every ReDead the player KO, they will get 800 points added to their ReDead KO bonus.

Strategies

  • One good use for ReDeads are to throw them at other characters. ReDeads can be picked up by using the Z button. Once picked up, the ReDead can be thrown at other characters to cause a good amount of damage.
  • Another good use for a ReDead is to lure characters towards the ReDead while it's attacking.
  • In a Coin battle, luring a character to a lurking ReDead is beneficial. ReDeads will take massive amounts of coins from the character if they (the character) are attacked by the ReDead.

ReDead Trophy

"Seven years after Ganondorf took control of Hyrule, ReDeads roamed the ruins of castle town, moaning. Link was shocked at the state of the town, and the apparent lack of survivors. He later learned that the townsfolks had evacuated to safety, and the ReDeads were magic animated into hideous humanoid shapes."
