Compendium
While editing the Genesis 3 page I noticed the wiki has no page explaining what's a compendium in the current context of eSports events. The Big House did it, now Genesis did it and I'm pretty sure EVO will do it. Maybe it's time for the wiki to have a page explaining what a "Smash Tournament Community Compendium" is, specially if this becomes a trend. PFFP (talk) 22:41, 24 December 2015 (EST)

The problem with the guy that added Lloyd to the notable players section is that I had undid it already. Which means he wanted (possibly?) to start an edit war. -- Happy Holidays from BeepYou :] 16:25, 25 December 2015 (EST)

- Haha, I've just been kinda taking a break from the wiki lately, so I haven't been on as much. I try to check out my talk page still, though. My opinion about the whole "Palutena notable players" situation is that people are either trying to add themselves or are trying to fill up the rather vacant section for notable players (in both cases, this is generally discouraged). I also can't find any notable results for "Lloyd" or "Psyche", either. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 12:16, 29 December 2015 (EST)

Someone added CaptainChreest to the list and I must say: I think he has finally earned a placing there. I also added El_Pitikla, a known Palu main from Spain, tío (even though she's still poorly regarded there as well, he's her best player in Europe and ranked the 9h best player in Spain). Zelda's notable players
Your opinions on them? I have not seen Ed and Zylach recently. I don't know who in the world is maXy. Ven is the most notable one. Nairo is fairly notable as well. Narcissa could be notable, but it is a bit debatable. -- Happy Holidays from BeepYou :] 19:34, 29 December 2015 (EST)
- Ed and Zylach are probably still two of the better Zelda players out there. maXy is actually a pretty solid Zelda from Ireland (currently ranked 6th over there). I think Narcissa/Cosmo might actually be the least notable of those players, to be honest, since I can't really seem to find any real results for her. Lythero?
Alright, so... some random dude made a page about the known YouTuber Lythero, who is known for the series Gossip For Glory and Grandstanding For Glory, which are also among the most viewed Smash videos alongside GRsmash's highlights and tops, and Alphafraud's How to Play and Story For Glory. The question for you both is the following: do you think Lee is worthy of a smasher page just like GR and Alpha have a smasher page in this wiki?? More than just results
So smashers who beaten other notable smashers can be called top professional without tournament results? I guess Zan beaten some good smashers. I don't want to be too loose to where someone just has to beat a handful of good smashers and get call "top professional". Does Zan have any better results? -- Ethan(Discussion) 13:07, 18 February 2016 (EST)
- I may have been too hasty with changing it back, admittedly. I just don't think that changing skill level should be influenced by the lack of results we have for the smasher's page in question when it's clear that there are several results missing. Larry Lurr Pound Character Usage
Where does it say that you have to win an entire game with a character to have it listed? Winning a game is a part of winning a set. I'm not trying to start anything, but he did use the character against Ally. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hakannakah1 (talk • contribs) {{{2}}}
- It's an unwritten yet accepted rule here on SmashWiki. If we listed every character used, some players would have that section overflow. Serpent King 21:09, 4 April 2016 (EDT)
- In addition to what SK said, another reason why it's a requirement for a player to win a set with a character (they don't have to use the character for the entire set, but they DO need to win at least one game in addition to winning the set) is because it's more accurate in regards to who they advanced through the tournament with. For example, regardless of how Larry Lurr's set against Ally went (whether it was 0-3, 1-3, or 2-3), the end result is still the same: Larry Lurr places 7th out of 513 entrants. A notable exception to this, however, is bracket resets. (Since even if the player who reset the bracket still loses in Grand Finals, they at least managed to send the player from winners into losers as well.) PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 21:18, 4 April 2016 (EDT)
- Do you think in a case like Mango at Pound 2016, who has become well-known for his usage of Marth versus Hax in winners semis, it would be acceptable to list that character even though he didn't win with him? Awesome Cardinal 2000 22:03, 4 April 2016 (EDT)
- While the set was definitely interesting (to say the least), I'm against making exceptions for certain players/sets, since it could potentially create a bit of a slippery slope. If the "Summary" section for tournament pages takes off, however, I think it would be fine to mention the set there. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 22:11, 4 April 2016 (EDT)

- While at it, I'd like to make a suggestion: wouldn't it be better to divide results by year AND collapsible? Those lists will only get longer, and fast since we're talking about a weekly. Something like
==Tournament results== ===Years=== ====Games===
- or
==Tournament results== ===Games=== ====Years====
- There's also the option to create a page for each season (year) and link on the main S@X page, to avoid the long text wall. The main page could cover the history of the weekly, giving "overall winners", that is, the player that at the end of the year won the most, etc.PFFP (talk) 13:38, 10 May 2016 (EDT)
PewPewU's Fox
PewPewU uses Fox not as a secondary and more like a main. He practically always uses Fox against Mew2King. Smasher Talk Fox, Falco, Marth, Ice Climbers 19:55, 12 May 2016 (EDT) Thunder1738 (Sorry, my signature says my mains)
- He's literally only used Fox vs. Mew2King once, and that was at EVO 2014 (which was almost two years ago). On top of that, that's an incorrect assessment, considering the fact that PewPewU almost always goes solo Marth at nationals. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 20:00, 12 May 2016 (EDT)
He uses Fox usually against M2K, but it doesn't happen often. He announced that he would use Fox against M2K before Evo 2014. He also usually uses Fox when he is losing with Marth.
I'd like to say something regarding players and major alternate costume identification.
I did not invent this rule, I was literally told by BeepYou that it is best to represent the costume they were using. When I created the 2GGT: Fatality Saga page a while back, BeepYou switched Vicegrip's Bowser Jr. pic, which I added because he technically played the character, into a Ludwig. Then I reverted, he then rereverted then said to look at the SoCal PR, which had Vicegrip's Ludwig on the table. I only altered the costumes for Cloud, Corrin, Robin etc for certain players in a way of identification similar to how Vicegrip identifies himself with Ludwig. I'm not trying to vandalize pages, I'm trying to showcase costume identification for players the way BeepYou did for Vicegrip and Ludwig. RAIN and M2K use Advent Cloud, while Earth and Ryo use female Corrin. Why do they, because they prefer them over their default, the same way Vicegrip prefers Ludwig over Bowser Jr. In fact, some PRs on Smash.gg have pics of the players' characters in their alt to prove their identification. I'm only helping and not hurting and doing the best for PRs. Thank You for your time. Falconian Leader (Enter the Leader's Office) 14:43, 23 May 2016 (EST)

- I'm with SK on this one. The character listing in the table should use one icon per character. If Player A plays male Corrin and Player B plays female Corrin, it should use the same icon so it can be immediately seen and understood as the same character. And besides, there's years of precedent for doing it this way with Brawl Wario. Miles (talk) 16:07, 23 May 2016 (EDT)

Sorry, I didn't watch any of Armada's play before top 8 besides his set against Silent Wolf. I will change it. Thunder1738 (talk) 17:14, 23 May 2016 (EDT)Thunder1738
About this...
I don't believe I was the one who started added the "Notable" preface, but I started adding it because I personally feel it is better to have, since we don't really need to know about every minor local that a player participated in. John PK SMAAAASH!! 10:25, 14 June 2016 (EDT)
- I disagree wholeheartedly, there's really no reason to include "notable" when "tournament placings" is more than enough to indicate what the section is about (which would be results from tournaments). I also see no reason to exclude locals from tournament results at all. If ZeRo or Nairo lost at a local (which they both recently have, actually), people would be clamoring to add that result. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 10:39, 14 June 2016 (EDT)
- And if ZeRo or Nairo lost at a local, that would make that tournament become notable, and thus worthy of mention. I really don't think the wiki should have to put up 1000+ more "Results" tags because we don't have every local some European player who hasn't touched the game since 2007 went to. John PK SMAAAASH!! 10:52, 14 June 2016 (EDT)
- I never said anything about adding 1000+ "results" tags at all. No one has to go out of their way to add every single tournament that a player entered, but I also don't think any tournaments should be removed if they are added. I'd rather just go by "tournament placings" (objective) instead of "notable tournament placings" (subjective), if anything. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 10:58, 14 June 2016 (EDT)
- Okay, I can agree about that objective and subjective part. That's a good enough reason to cut the "notable" preface. But while you say that no one needs to go out of their way to add every result, doesn't that sort of contradict what you said earlier about seeing no reason to exclude locals from the results sections? John PK SMAAAASH!! 11:05, 14 June 2016 (EDT)
- Not particularly. When I said "no reason to exclude locals", I meant that locals shouldn't be removed from tournament sections if people decide to add them, is all. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 11:08, 14 June 2016 (EDT)
- All right. I'll continue doing what I do: making smasher articles and adding only the tournaments we cover. If someone wants to come in and add more, they can do that. John PK SMAAAASH!! 11:10, 14 June 2016 (EDT)

Mango
Mango getting drunk is common knowledge, plus in the Smash Brothers documentary it said that he got arrested (forgot the number) times. I also heard from Mew2King himself that the only reason why Mango doesn't have a controversy section is because more people like him. I have heard this by many other people a large quantity of time Poultry(talk) the God-Slayer 21:02, 15 June 2016 (EDT)
- I would said perhaps remove the arrested, but everything else is really fine. Penro 21:10, 15 June 2016 (EDT)
- The Smash documentary occasionally exaggerates, so I wouldn't use that as a basis for Mango being arrested. However, it can be re-added provided the section has proper grammar and spelling (it's "performing" not "preforming").
- I have also brought up the issue about Mango's lack of controversy section in the past as well. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 21:15, 15 June 2016 (EDT)
- I have long since felt that controversy sections are...well pointless. Who cares? Why should we concern ourselves with whether or not Mango was ever arrested? What does that have to do with Smash? Serpent King 21:24, 15 June 2016 (EDT)
- Um, because it's about the smasher? People come to the page about the smasher, and are interested in these things.
- With that said, I could try to rewrite it, or someone else could. Penro 21:29, 15 June 2016 (EDT)
- They'd come and expect Smash-related controversies, not every tidbit about a person's life. Unless Mango was going to a tournament during the days he was in jail, or got super disrupted by said jail time (assuming it even occurred), it's not exactly Smash related info. MegaTron1 21:35, 15 June 2016 (EDT)
- ...Not a good reason, sorry. This wiki is about Smash, and law breaking does not fall into that scope. Serpent King 21:36, 15 June 2016 (EDT)

Ok, probably not the jail nonsense. But controversies should really stay, because they're quite notable in the competitive scene. Penro 21:38, 15 June 2016 (EDT)
- Yeah if they have to do with the scene, they are probably ok. If they are about lawsuits and that kind of stuff (I think there are a few crew/sponsor/company pages with that sort of information), that should go. Serpent King 21:40, 15 June 2016 (EDT)
Results formatting
"Characters should only be added if they helped to win a set"
Where did that come from? – Smiddle 12:20, 16 June 2016 (EDT)
- This has been an unwritten rule for tournament pages for a while (since at least late 2013), as shown by the Kings of Cali 3 talk page. It's been discussed on my talk page as well in the "Larry Lurr Pound Character Usage" section. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 12:26, 16 June 2016 (EDT)
Make them then. Not sure what the issue is with putting in the bracket for tournaments that have no pages of their own if no one's going to ever make them. Piledrivaaa (talk) 00:24, 19 June 2016 (EDT)
- The issue is removing redlinks, because all it does is guarantee that you'll have to edit the page again, and it can be hard to keep track of depending on how many pages it's on. I'm editing on mobile, so making pages is harder compared to editing on a desktop. Please don't remove redlinks. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 00:28, 19 June 2016 (EDT)
