Coin Battle?
I saw GameXplains latest discussion and they say that the Coin Battle mode will probably return (The text bubble in the third pikmin has coins in it?????) Can I add that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smasher-Billy (talk • contribs) 11:26, 20 October 2014 (EDT)

Updates
I think we should utilize the "latest version" box in some way for game updates. Maybe we could have it light up in a stronger colour in the week following an update, or put the date of the latest version in the box and bold it if it's recent, or something of the sort. That way we won't need to have a separate news item for every minor update (major updates would get both). Toomai Glittershine The Chilled 23:17, 27 October 2014 (EDT)
- Agree: I think that's a great idea. This would separate the regular news from (somewhat) unimportant updates, and it would still give us the information we need. Aidan the Gamer 23:23, 27 October 2014 (EDT)

Smashers' birthdays?
I've been meaning to make this ambitious proposal for a while now, and I decided to wait until the traffic after Smash 4's release died down a bit. Anyway, I was wondering if the community would be okay with putting the birthdays of competitive players on this template as they happen, kinda' like we did with Sakurai's 44th a few months back. (He doesn't look nearly as old as he is, btw). Obviously, we wouldn't do this for EVERYONE, especially not smashers who are inactive, or not extremely notable outside their regions or anything like that, but for those who are active and recognizable to just about anyone, I think would be fine. So what do you guys think? MeatBall104; From overneath the bridge, and now to you! 17:09, 2 December 2014 (EST)

Split regular Smash and competitive smash news
Lately I've been seeing the majority of the news we have here have been tournament results, which at sometimes, it has taken up the entire news list, with no news about everything else in smash showing up due to this. I was thinking about splitting the news into two sections. One for competitive play, and one for just smash news in general. Dots (talk) The Cutie 09:55, 20 January 2015 (EST)
- It's a weird case where due to SSB4 coming out there's not a lot of non-competitive news to really have in there. Other than amiibo releases and the little bit of future DLC/patches we know about, there's not really much else in the way of news to have. I would say we should make sure the most recent non-tourney news stays even if we have to bump a more recent tourney news point. Miles (talk) 10:03, 20 January 2015 (EST)
- I honestly support a split news. I myself have small interest in a tournament I have no involvement in (and I'm almost certain a few people can vouch for that statement). BlueStreak Speeds By 10:05, 20 January 2015 (EST)
- I'm questioning if it is necessary that we should list every national tournament that happened, no matter how minor one is compared to other nationals. That's the thing I'm concerned about. Dots (talk) The Silent 10:08, 20 January 2015 (EST)
- If you're wondering about that, then I suggest we only talk about major tournaments, such as APEX or MLG. Others should have at least some significance in order to be mentioned. That's what I think. BlueStreak Speeds By 10:10, 20 January 2015 (EST)
- I support split news, for the same reasons as blue streak. Littlesquirtle! I choose you! 11:25, 20 January 2015 (EST)

We already have very little non-competitive Smash Bros. news, so splitting might just result in a really old or empty section. Maybe a "recent tourney results" section would work better, using tables instead of text to compress it a little, but the main page is already a bit right-heavy. Toomai Glittershine The Loony 11:48, 20 January 2015 (EST)
- Here's an idea.
- We have a little thing where, like Toomai suggested, it's the "recent tournament results", and in it, we have one thing: aptly, the most recent tournament results. It's completely separate from the main news section, and it only gets changed after a tournament of any kind happens. It would be like the news, except with only one bullet (as opposed to 4-5). (...ok, maybe I just suggested what Toomai just said.) BlueStreak Speeds By 11:53, 20 January 2015 (EST)
Instead of making the tourney section separation, I would propose limiting the size of the tournaments being featured on the news template; when there's a lot of tournament activity, only very large nationals would be listed. Of recent tournaments, only B.E.A.S.T. 5 and Paragon 2015 would be featured on the list; the rest wouldn't be large or significant enough, in my opinion. Awesome Cardinal 2000 19:16, 20 January 2015 (EST)
- Yeah, before Apex 2013, there wasn't a cluster of national tournaments being put on the news, we should return to that state in my opinion as I find that there are way too many minor nationals (Some are so minor that I never knew those tournaments until they're pasted on the news). Maybe we could even make a tourney table like Toomai said and put it in the middle of the Main Page. Dots (talk) The Zerg Rush 19:26, 20 January 2015 (EST)
Tournaments like Final Battle and Double Vegas Down Attack #6 didn't even attract that much attention anyways. Awesome Cardinal 2000 19:56, 20 January 2015 (EST)
Strong Support I feel this is something that needs to be done a long time ago when people wanted to find out who's been confirmed for smash bros and don't really care about tournament results. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is bad for me 23:00, 20 January 2015 (EST)
- Right now there are no new characters being confirmed. Awesome Cardinal 2000 06:51, 21 January 2015 (EST)
- I know, but I still wanted to see Smash Bros news separated from the competitive news. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is made in America 11:39, 21 January 2015 (EST)
- As I stated above, there's little non-competitive news coming and the amount will dwindle further once Mewtwo and the remaining SSBU patch-in content are released. It wouldn't hurt to try to keep the competitive news limited to nationals and other more major events, though. Miles (talk) 11:54, 21 January 2015 (EST)
- To compromise, I wouldn't mind tier list releases, smasher and crew statuses, and the major tournaments to be up on the news. Just see if we can find a separate place on the main page for if someone wants to give news of minor tournament results. Dots (talk) The Belmont 13:17, 21 January 2015 (EST)
- Not only that, if we do a table for the tournaments, I also think its a great way to show what tournaments are upcoming. Dots (talk) The Gold 13:23, 21 January 2015 (EST)

Based on the above, I would be interested to see people's ideas for a highly streamlined format of displaying recent tournament results or upcoming tournaments. Miles (talk) 14:55, 21 January 2015 (EST)
- Yeah, I agree with having tables, just so that we can at least separate the tournaments from the news. Dots (talk) The Asian 15:09, 21 January 2015 (EST)
- I'm still putting my idea out there: we have one box with the most recent tournament results, being separate from the whole news list. We can still keep stuff relating to tournaments, like the first two bullets on our current newslist, but in terms of results, we can have it be its own section. BlueStreak Speeds By 15:14, 21 January 2015 (EST)
Has there been any progress on this? I noticed recently that the news section is again filled with tournament results despite coming to see if any official news has happened. VinLAURiA (talk) 17:55, 9 November 2015 (EST)
- I also support a split. There should always be at least one non-tournament news item on the front page, to make it easier for people to determine if they missed anything. —Fenhl 04:25, 10 November 2015 (EST)
Clarification: I still think doing an outright split is a terrible idea. Non-competitive news is very intermittent, and at most we tend to get a patch a month. That leaves plenty of room in the template for tourney results. If someone comes looking for "was DLC announced in the last month" and the news infobox is tourney results from the last month and nothing else, I assume they are smart enough to realize that the answer is "no". Miles (talk) 04:27, 10 November 2015 (EST)
- Agree'd. Fine as is Serpent King 04:30, 10 November 2015 (EST)
- That's unhelpful for people who have not been keeping up as frequently or who don't remember the date of the last non-tournament news. I frequently find myself going through this template's history to look this up. Having at least one non-tournament news item on the main page would be a much clearer indicator of “no, you haven't missed anything relevant” than the current system. —Fenhl 04:35, 10 November 2015 (EST)
- If that is undesirable, we could keep both types of news in the same section but make sure that it contains at least one news item of each type at all times. —Fenhl 05:09, 10 November 2015 (EST)
VGBootCamp
Hey Miles, just in case you didn't notice, you don't get to decide it unilaterally either; have you noticed that you're the only one reverting my edits? Once again, if you're going to remove the shit I put here, give me a fucking reason, and back it up. How many times do I have to explain this to you? Smashboards and reddit have really exploded over this issue, and anyone in the Smash community will tell you how important this is.
People like OT have told you enough times about this. Provide reasoning to all the arguments you say without deliberately avoiding discussion, and don't interfere with things you have little knowledge about. Listen to what people say. Awesome Cardinal 2000 09:45, 7 February 2015 (EST)
- I've read most of the Reddit crap, and I have yet to find a reason as to how it could possibly be front-page-newsworthy that one channel has made a decision to not stream a game. Toomai Glittershine The Undirigible 10:48, 7 February 2015 (EST)
- For the record, this is a summary of my point of view: The PM community is upset that VGBC is "leaving" them as VGBC accepts that PM is legally-grey. VGBC is just another streamer; there will be others to take their place, and the PM community whines loudly when something bad happens to them, regardless of what it actually is. This event doesn't "affect the community" nearly as much as, say, PM not being at Apex did (was that a news item? I don't remember). Toomai Glittershine The Undirigible 11:13, 7 February 2015 (EST)
- I've noticed the community, PM or not, has a tendency to whine about a bunch of crap...and it's mainly because they can't get what they want. Which is honestly one of the main reasons I hate this fanbase so much. Aidan the Aura Master 11:15, 7 February 2015 (EST)
- Continuing what Toomai was saying, from what I understand, we don't report what the community thinks. We report what the officials say. The information that the community gets, spoiler alert, goes from the officials to here to the community. Aidan the Aura Master 11:20, 7 February 2015 (EST)
- @Toomai: I don't care enough about this to get fully involved here, but I will point out that VGBC is the by far largest and most influential streamer for Smash, they're not just "another stream", while streaming is a pretty important and continually growing part of Smash nowdays, thus them dropping their PM content has notability in that regard and is something to consider.
Toom basically summarized my feelings on the subject. One stream (even a major one) dropping PM over legal concerns isn't as big of a deal as you seem to think it is. And I am rather tired of the insinuation that I'm not aware of the community. It's not my area of expertise, sure, but I've made a significant effort to keep more on top of such things. Miles (talk) 12:13, 7 February 2015 (EST)
- Are you just going to let other people say all your words for you, but still make all the changes yourself? Don't revert changes like this if you're going to get all mad when people oppose them, but still refuse to say anything about it. Awesome Cardinal 2000 15:04, 7 February 2015 (EST)
- I'm not online 24/7, and Toom already pretty much said what I was going to on the subject before I saw your talk page post. There's no need to get upset. Miles (talk) 15:09, 7 February 2015 (EST)

You made a typo
On the page, it say Nintendo accounces a Nintendo direct on the March 31st news item. It is misspelled and should be announced. MarioIsTheBest (talk) 15:30, 31 March 2015 (EDT)
- Whilst it seems odd, future tense is appropriate for dated items. Look up event timelines, they're often written in the FT.
- For example: 2012: The Olympic games are run in London. ScoreCounter 15:41, 31 March 2015 (EDT)
- While you're not wrong about the tense, I think the point he was trying to make was that it says "accounces", which is a genuine misspelling rather than just "future tense". It should be "announces". PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 17:26, 31 March 2015 (EDT)
