Daybreak (ジェネシス, Genesis) is an item in Super Smash Bros. 4. Similar to the Dragoon, it is an item in three parts - the player must collect all three parts of the item in order to use the combined weapon. When completed, it becomes a large, Heavy, shooting weapon item, similar to the Cracker Launcher, held by the character; while held, the character can only move, jump, and fire the weapon; trying to drop the weapon fires it instead. When fired, it charges for a short moment, then fires a single beam, similar to a cross between Zero Laser and Light Arrow, with almost one-hit KO power straight forward, dealing about 57 damage if damaged by the full attack; the beam ignores Shields. Those hit may survive if they were at low enough damage and far enough away from the blast line, but may still end up to far to actually recover. Glancing hits (such as when fired too high during a jump so it only hits the top of the opponent's head) will deal less damage, but the knockback can still be enough to prevent recovering.

If someone slowly walks backwards off of an and edge so that they will auto-grab the ledge, then the completed Daybreak will drop next to the ledge, ready for anyone to pick up and use. The final hit of the beam causes the ping sound effect.

Origin

The Daybreak appears in Kid Icarus: Uprising as a weapon in Together Mode. It is heavily inspired by the Dragoon from Kirby Air Ride and Super Smash Bros. Brawl; one player must collect all three parts to use its single-shot one-hit KO power, and being defeated causes collected parts to be dropped into play. One difference from the Dragoon is that, in Light vs. Dark mode, the parts do not all have to be collected by a single team member; whoever collects the last part for their team will be granted the weapon.
