Timber (タネ植え/水やり/伐採, Plant Seed/Watering/Lumbering) is Villager's down special move. The move is actually 3 different attacks in order, as the Japanese name shows:
- Plant Seed: The Villager plants a seed in the ground and the move changes to Watering. The seed remains for about 14 seconds before it disappears, resetting the attack to Plant Seed.
- Watering: After Plant Seed is used, the move changes to a watering can, which will create a medium-range wind hitbox like other Water attacks. When used close enough to include a planted Seed, a full tree quickly sprouts (dealing damage and knockback as it rises). The produced tree can stay on the field for about 14 seconds before it disappears, resetting the attack to Plant Seed.
- Lumbering: After the Tree has sprouted, the move changes to an axe, swinging once for a strong hit. If it hits the tree, it will cut into one side on the first hit, then cut it down on the second hit on a side that already has a cut in it, knocking it back a bit and falling a fair distance if able; the tree does enormous damage and heavy knockback to anyone hit, as well as meteor smashing as it falls, and may possibly spawn up to two Woodchip items that can be picked up and thrown for small damage. After the tree has fully despawned, the attack resets to Plant Seed again (but remains in Lumbering until the tree is fully gone).
Any characters can attack a spawned tree, although this will simply cause the tree to disappear without harming anyone. The tree will also automatically disappear on its own if after about 14 seconds. If the tree disappears for any reason, the attack resets to Plant Seed again.
A Villager can interact with another Villager's sapling and tree, assuming he is on the correct move stage. (For example, even if there is already a tree on the stage, if a Villager has yet to plant theirs, he can only plant his own seed.)
Origin
In the Animal Crossing series, the player can buy an axe from Tom Nook's store. This axe can be used to clear pathways by cutting down trees. The tree takes two swings to fall. After this, the player must use his shovel to get rid of the stump. The axe will take damage every use. The player can also buy tree seeds and plant them in the ground. If there are no trees nearby, it will grow. In the actual games, watering trees does not work.
The Watering Can and seeds can be purchased from Tom Nook's store in older games, and in the gardening shop in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. By planting a seed in the ground, the player can help it grow into a tree by watering it.
Trivia
- Although it takes much longer for a seedling to grow into a full-grown tree in the Animal Crossing games, it does, in fact, take two swings from an axe to chop a tree down, as it does in Super Smash Bros.
- However, it takes three chops in New Leaf and Wild World.
