ChiboSempai, also known as Chibo, is an American smasher from Brigantine, New Jersey who previously lived in Philadelphia for 5 years while attending Drexel University, where he started his Smash career.

Etymology

Formerly known as "ElChibo", Chibo was tired of everyone thinking he was Mexican, so he decided to add "Sempai" to his nickname in August of 2007. This decision was also puzzling, because the suffix of "sempai" is Japanese, while Chibo is not, thus furthering the confusion over his race to people who haven't met him. He would eventually forgo the "Sempai" portion of his tag, becoming known as simply "Chibo".

Background

Chibo went to Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA where he spent his time playing Smash and training with others such as GOTM, Chocobo, Scar, Cactuar, and more. Chibo mains Samus in Super Smash Bros. Melee. In the past, Chibo has mained Young Link and Mario.

Chibo was in the crew Titans of Smash with other players such as GOTM, MexiMadnez, and more. Since the creation of the crew, he has recruited plenty of good players such as AlexanderTriad, Vex Kasrani, and TenNoTensai. The crew lived on for many years, stretching from Melee back in 2007, up through multiple years after the release of Brawl. The crew eventually grew quite large, with many members split between the Philadelphia and South Jersey areas.

Chibo has attended many Melee tournaments including SPOC II, III, IV, and V, CoT I and II, Pound 3, and more. He is credited with hosting CoT I and II along with GOTM, and the VGXPO's SSBM Tournaments on Saturday and Sunday.

Chibo has been a fan of the Smash series for a long time, dating back to Smash 64, however he did not get into the tournament scene until November of 2006. Besides Smash, he is quite skilled at many other games, and once held the speed run world record for the 16 Star category in Super Mario 64. He also owns and operates a website called Following Revolution, a blog/website based on all video games, which is also home to its own podcast.

Brawl

Chibo is a big supporter of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and has been playing it consistently since a couple weeks before the game came out. He is the owner of CLASH Tournaments and sponsors many top players such as Mew2King, ZeRo, and Hungrybox. He runs the livestreams at tournaments he attends, and crowds commonly chant his name in between matches. He is also one of the best R.O.B. players in the United States.
